In theory I agree. Packaging looks similar on a number of cereals.....and news organizations.

Choose wisely and diversely.

What comes next? A spat or is the love already over?

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/28/w...eninsula-.html

As we have discussed here many times, one has to use a variety of tools to get the job done. Here we see the U.S. seemingly putting away one tool and picking up another in the announcement that no further joint exercises wth SK will be canceled. Interesting way of framing it instead of saying that we are proceeding with plans...

I would guess that these are recurrent exercises that have long been scheduled and planned so nothing shocking.

The real question, and one that makes this so fascinating to watch in 2018, is wondering if we are just returning to a status quo ante or if we are going to see the pendulum gather momentum in another direction?

Again, nothing too revelatory but it shows a slight shift in the wind direction. At least we know that the U.S. and its allies are trying to work the issue and that there seems to be a number of voices within the administration participating. It also shows that apart from all of Mr. Trump's previous bluster that reality is hard to nudge asides.

Does this mean that after one passionate weekend in Singapore the fires of love (or was it lust?) are being banked? Or is it still call me maybe?

Well....over in the whipsaw department we have a two for one sale ongoing as Mr. Trump announced yesterday that the military exercises with SK are still on ice.

I think both friend and foe are losing the plot here. I understand the good cop bad cop routine as well as leveraging points of strength, but I am not sure anyone can keep up with what is going on at the moment--including Mattis, Pompeo, the South Koreans, and China.

Anyone with the decoder ring?

Now this fine morning, we learn that the Chinese are accusing the POTUS of carelessness and absurdity. The report from the Spiegel implies frustrartion, as i describbed above, as to what the exact requirements and goals are at any one time and what is expected from that point. Simply bleating "compliance" out is not enough. The players need to know the game plan. Keeping both friend and foe confused is not profitable.

Donald Trump admits to haven fallen in love with Kim Jong Un

By his own admission he is smitten by the corpulent Un. Was it the letters or is there more? Ah but we will never know as love springs from the strangest places.

This time it is serious though. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/...epage_taps_top

North Korea being sued by people who went from Japan to NK in the 1960's.
"They lied to us!"
That's the law suit.
I guess Mr Kim needs to see his doctor. I imagine he cracked a rib laughing at that one.

Pompeo frozen out? Kim in the catbird's seat?

Is Pompeo carrying coals to Newcastle this weekend?

Gee, who say that coming, besides anyone who has paid attention to the Kim family for a few years?
The question is, chto delat? (Что делать? )
My answer is; when the Chinese find it to be a problem, it will get solved.
Not before then.

Who saw that coming? 95% of the folks here for starters.
Trump - well, No.

Still pondering how exactly this utter dumb-ass made it to Pennsylvania Ave.

Indeed we are shocked! Shocked! Similar to being surprised there is drinking going on in this pub or organised crime down at the dockside.

Not sure if it is worth resurrecting this thread, but I am surprised no one has commented on Act II two of the Trump-Kim show that will be staged in Vietnam later this month.

Not saying that meeting is a bad idea, but it always helps at this level to have a clear idea of the agenda and the goals. I wonder what specific logjam Trump is trying to break. What do the parties wish to accomplish? What major concession can Trump make since he seems keen on doing just that at the expense of the Western Pacific alliance?

I guess we will know soon enough...unless he destroys the notes of the conversation as is his wont with certain dictators.

I'm not surprised that there's been no mention of Round 2.

I don't think anyone expects anything substantive will result, same as Round 1 in Singapore.

Another awkward, schmaltzy, poorly produced show with bad acting, for world distribution.
With all the substance of a wisp of candle smoke.
$s for Hanoi.

The idea is that the economic choke hold will influence the back-home support behind the fat-wun. Eventually he will become their only saviour and to give a little more inch-by-inch.

The meeting is to prop both Kim and Trumpet up as saviours in front of their people.. If public opinion pulls the props out from underneath these saviours all hell will break loose
