Bunga Bunga is erupting...

Sorry I mean Bardarbunga is erupting... (we leave the other to silly Italian politicians).

Red alert as Iceland's Bardarbunga volcano starts erupting - Europe - World - The Independent

Can we expect transatlantic airline traffic chaos again? How does one appease the Icelandic or Nordic Gods...?

Hmm, good question.

Perhaps they want us to lay off the legal action which is still going on to get our money back from Icelandic banks/government/taxpayer?

It’s a bit early for Iceland volcano jokes. We should wait awhile for the dust to settle.

I see that America has declared war on Iceland. Apparently they are accusing them of harbouring a “weapon of ash eruption”.

It was the last wish of the Icelandic economy that its ashes be spread over Europe.

Iceland goes bankrupt, then it manages to set itself on fire. This has insurance scam written all over it.

Iceland, we wanted your cash, not your ash.

Waiter, there's volcanic ash in my soup. I know, it's a no-fly zone.

Richard Curtis is working on a new rom-com about people stuck in an airport who fall in love. The working title is "Lava Actually".

I came out my house yesterday and was hit on the head by a bag of frozen sausages, a chocolate gateau and some fish fingers. I realised it must be the fallout from Iceland.

Volcano in Iceland. What next Earthquake in Asda?

Woke this morning to find every surface in the house covered in a layer of dust and a foul stench of sulphur in the air. No change, I’ve been married to that bone-idle slob for 20 years.

It's Bárðarbunga actually.
True and it is situated under the under the ice cap of Vatnajökull glacier, the pronunciation of whose name completely flummoxes me.

Such linguistic complication also makes me realise that any British lawyer who attempts to dispute with these canny Icelanders should have a most dexterous tongue to have any hope of pecuniary satisfaction in the cauldron of the Icelandic court.

An interesting talk on SKY this morning by an Iceland vulcanologist.. It's uncertain whether the magma will burn a hole in the glacial ice or - since it's near the edge of the glacier - emerge beside it. Either scenario means different quantities and types of particles ejected into the atmosphere.

It's still wait and see, then.

It's Bárðarbunga actually.
I once had a dabble at learning Icelandic..until the grammar made my head fall off.

I think it's pronounced "Bowvvf arbungah"
The BBC seem to have decided the thorn character is not present though and is a "D" and so "Bowda-bunger".

Happy to be corrected.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office said it had lowered the aviation alert to orange from red and that the airspace above the volcano was no longer a no-fly zone.

like in the good old days?

Isn't that what they're for?

There is, as yet, no crater as the activity is all taking place below ground - deep down - a couple of kilometres I believe . . .

the virgin

I remember them from my boyhood. There were a lot about then - in fact, nothing else in Leicestershire if you were a horny young WASP male..

I see Bunga Bunga is slightly quieter.
