6th November 1968 British Eagle ceased to be with the loss of 2300 jobs
And of course in March 1971 about 5000 at Rolls-Royce - that was me and about 4999 others...

...ten weeks before I got married

Still, 43 years later I've had several other jobs and early retirement but still got the same wife.

I obviously got something right.

GG

GG

The effects of that were widespread.

The reduction of the expected sales of Nicol Alloys were seriosly felt in Hereford.

We lost two dogs to leptospirosis - separated by several years.

Initial symptoms excessive drinking, final condition loss of use of rear legs.

That's terrible, 4ma, all the worse for coming out of the blue like that.

That's not all Geordie yak, in the Chronicle, tony. Most of it is used as far south as Stockton and Hartlepool. I think it's because we were all in a different country in the days of the Danegeld. If that daft Southern Saxon Eorl Harold had come to an agreement and handed over the customary swag instead of taking us on at Stamford Bridge, we'd have helped him and his army to drive 'Willum the Fatherless' back into the sea.

Just imagine - if Willum the Fatherless had lost the Battle of Hastings, the whole country would be 'tarkin proppa' today, not to mention most of the people of Northern France - or more properly, Southern Britain.

Morning. Bloody parky here, who nicked the sun while I was away? Bluey, what have you been up to?

Had a lovely time in Paris with the trouble. My backpacker instinct for parsimony meant we found some great eateries, including an absolute gem near Bvd Clichy where the chef came out to say hello to everyone and kiss them/shake their hands.

Best museum was the Musee Rodin. Never been there before. I didn't realise how dark and depressing he was. EG - The Kiss. Look carefully, they're not touching lips and were doomed never to. Murdered by the cuckolded hubbie! The Thinker? Dante himself, dreaming up more gore and mayhem.

4ma - awful news about the doggie.

Our European HQ in Rotterdam wants me to go across probably the end of the month. BA have pounced around with their flights some now going through LCY, (not a clue how to get there from LHR!), however don't want to fly into AMS, hate the place.

Bluey, I do apologise for casting aspersions.

I've just realised that it is our very own Brylcreem Boy, ex-Ascot, who pinched the sun. It's not only the Swaziland Navy that has to watch out for tea leaves.

Any flights into Eindhoven from Manchester laser? Jump on a train and you're there sharpish. Easy airport to use as well, done it the once. Do not go LHR to LCY on the tube, way too much hassle.

Caution: Aviation content. This was filmed with permission of authorities. Do not do this yourself, you will be shot down and no damned Chinese Lanterns either.

Got an email from boss via UK that they want me on top of the Moorfields job to go down to the office, pre inspect a system. Then install in Solihull. Trains aren't friendly have a 25Kg toolcase and laptop bag and suitcase. Phoned the UK service manager and told him of my health and concerns. His answer was "So, what do you want me to do about it".
He got a few choice expletives and told him he better find someone else because I quit.
Phoned the boss and told her I quit (she was on voicemail). She has just phoned back to congratulate me on telling the UK guy what I thought, and promised to protect me or she will quit as well.
