Davaar obituary

My name is Anna and I am the daughter of Davaar. I hope I have posted this in the right spot, he always spoke so highly of his PPRuNe contacts and enjoyed the lively exchanges of thoughts. I am sad to announce, he passed away and I have included his obituary below.

-Anna ([email protected])

LYON, James Traill QC (Canada), MA(Glasgow), LLB (St Andrews), LLM(McGill, Montreal), WS, FRAESApril 15, 1934 - July 15, 2014James was born and educated in Scotland. After completing an Arts degree at the University of Glasgow, he completed National Service as a pilot in the Royal Navy (Fleet Air Arm), where he continued his love of flying. After National Service he studied law at the University of St Andrews and later, at McGill University, Montreal. There followed a long and successful career as a lawyer in Canada. With sadness we announce that James has succumbed to the cancer which he fought for many years. It is his wish to be Cremated and for a Private Service of Remembrance to take place in his native Scotland at a later date. He leaves behind his wife Irmtraut and daughter Anna. His family in Scotland and many friends mourn his passing. - See more at: JAMES LYON Obituary: View JAMES LYON's Obituary by Ottawa Citizen

Thank you for letting us know.

We knew Davaar as a gentleman, scholar, humanist, and kind soul. I personally feel great loss as I respected Davaar at the very highest level.

My sorrow at this news is assuaged somewhat by my certainty that he lived a fulfilling and successful life and fought his challenges to the end, which was at a ripe age, though not long enough.

You had the finest of men for a father. Bless you and thanks, again.

Peace, Davaar. You left a very high mark for us all.

Thank you for sharing your loss with us.

I for one will miss him, for he was obviously a very well educated and intelligent man, one who will be miss much farther afield from this small world of PPRuNe.

He was one that many times brought sanity into arguments in this sometimes insane forum, mostly by using wit and knowledge. I learned much from him and as hard headed as I am, that is saying quite a bit.

May God bless you in this time of grievance.

Sincerely yours.

Anna, thank you for letting us know. Your father was much admired and loved here. Sharp, hilariously funny and no one, but no one, could carry a grudge like you old man.
We have been missing him already , and shall miss him even more now.
Oh and Anna, of course you know, but your father was so very very proud of your achievements.
Like the story he loved to tell about the time you applied for a school and they did not believe your French level was 'native speaker'. You proved them wrong and your Dad just loved that.

My condolences Anna, and please know there are many of your father's internet friends who are sad today.

Dear Anna

Condolences from us to you, your mother, and your family. His calm but occasionally piercing pronouncements on JB will very much be missed.

RIP, Davaar.

Anna, thank you so much for letting us know about your dad.

He had a wonderful sense of humour and marvellous turn of phrase. Why am I not in the least surprised to hear he was an expert in non-litigious dispute resolution?

While you grieve the loss of your father, please remember that he brightened up the lives of many on here. A legacy for you to be proud of.
He lives on in the hearts and minds of not just his JB pals, but those he worked and lived with.

Much to his amusement -- some of us killed him off early, which he was typically generous about! A mark of the man who will be missed and remembered fondly in out hearts.

May your God Bless you and your family.

I'll mak siccar from Tir nan Og will be remembered and missed. One whose response was sometimes awaited with breath abated the more so as one was quite well aware that he had a habit of making certain.
Thank you for the taking the time and trouble to post the sad news and commiserations to you.

The following is a liberty which I hope will amuse.

Ruglen's wee roon' rid lums reek brawly.

To you, Onan, it's a fair cop, Guv. I'll come quietly.

I first heard the tale of Kirkpatrick from Miss Sneddon in Primary 1, reinforced by her in Primary 2, during the unpleasantness with the Continental Powers in 1939 - 1945.

We were well aware that this European stuff was all a passing diversion, and we knew who was the real enemy. The "arrogant and cruel" sheriff of Lanark was the Englishman Haselrigg, who killed Wallace's brother in law and later Wallace's wife. At that time (our time) the Luftwaffe had a Field Marshal Albert ("Smiling Al") Kesselring. The link between the names is obvious. Probably cousins.

On Bruce's doing the job in the Kirk at Dumfries ("syne with a knyff, richt in that sted, hym reft the lyff"), and Kirkpatrick's finishing it off, Miss Sneddon offered the view that it was naughty of Bruce to slice Comyn up just beside the high altar. The accepted view among her 7 and 8 year-old audience was that the SOB got what was coming to him, and we had an inkling that Miss Sneddon was right there with us, the political correctness excepted.

Edward I was very displeased that "the Brwyss had ... broucht the Cumyn till ending" and "Owt of his wyt he went weill neir".

Oh dear - we never met (and I never tangled with him here), but Davaar was greatly respected and I looked forward to his contributions.
I greatly appreciate you taking the trouble to inform us - we do wonder when one of our members goes missing.

Now we can reflect on the loss (though, of course, your loss is real whereas we have only lost a virtual friend).

I suggest we fly a virtual 'missing man' formation in his honour.

Meanwhile, you might be comforted by the following:-

(I hope that works for you - if not simply enter 'davaar' into the search function)
