Recommendations for Ig Nobel research projects.

I am sure that JB'ers have many questions of profound importance that are in need of answers, and in order to offer assistance to intrepid IG Nobel applicants for research grants I think we should start our own recommendation research list.

I would like to kick the ball off with my own suggestion. An aspect that concerns me greatly is whether in measuring ones blood pressure should there be any adjustment to the recorded systolic and diastolic pressure as a consequence of the prevailing barometric pressure for the day.

There must be hundreds of thousands being prescribed blood pressure medication around the world incorrectly due to a failure by GP's to allow for this. If it has already been evaluated then I would appreciate a copy of the relevant formulae.

The datum changes with the ambient pressure and the variables still swing with reference to that datum. (he said, knowledgeably, without a real clue.)

Check altitude versus blood pressure. Say people in San Francisco versus people in Denver.

I know Denver is bad for people with lung disease, but people in Colorado tend to be more athletic and trim than most in the US.

What about wait time before you see the doctor? I could see a correlation between that and high blood pressure.

Are you saying the pressure drop is why some people die of heart attacks during tornados? I thought they were scared to death.

I'll be happy to be a payed consultant.

Do feel free to add your own Ig Nobel research project recommendations. Funding might be made available for the most adventurous - note: might.

I need some serious funding, to research why men automatically pull in their stomach and pull up their trousers, as soon as they enter the door of a public bar or restaurant, or meet with a young, attractive female.
The older the man, the greater the chance of seeing this action happen.
Take notice, you'll soon see what I mean - and it bothers me greatly why this is so - thus I need research results to fully explain this curious habit, that applies almost right across the entire male spectrum.

The technology is there now to do it. A small radio transponder is inserted into an artery and gives, on interrogation, immediate (within milliseconds) measurement of blood pressure. The initial report and the resulting developed standards are on the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) web site (TR102 309 is the initial report, the standards are EN302 510 parts 1 and 2.)

All you need to add is a barometer on the interrogator - which could be made a small unit hardly bigger than a cellular 'phone.

I thought Mode 3 already gave altitude, which should be easily convertable to barometric pressure. All a GP would then need to know is the QNH and visibility.

I don't think a Mode 3 transponder would quite fit in the size or power constraints!!! The interrogator for the implant is MUCH more simple - it can be, because there are no pilots involved!
