Your correction (cordially accepted) merely compounds the problem, which I suspect was your intention.

I realise that it's not all Americans, I would suggest that no American on (JB for instance) fails to see and understand the overt attacks being carried out on you by your own GovT.

Perhaps it's time for the JB US Constitutional Party to be born.

President Ranger Brock
Sec of State Con Pilot
Head of Homeland Security SASless
Sec Def West Coast (Semper Fi)
Chief Whip BenThere
Sec of State for Alliteration Airborn Aircrew

Fill in the rest as you see fit.

Frankly I'm not that surprised at Manning's sentence, given that he acted without giving proper thought to some of the potential consequences. His sentence is a fair bit more severe than I would have expected had he been a UK national tried in our courts, though.

At least Snowden is being careful to try and limit the risk of people being endangered as a consequence of the information he's released (so far); Manning just dumped the lot on Wikileaks without a thought, and endangered people's lives as a consequence.

Sure I feel a bit sorry for Manning, he seems to be a very confused man who was probably not best suited to being in the military. Doesn't really excuse his actions, though.

He could feesibly be out in 9 years.

He must first serve at least a third of his sentence. He has more than three years' time served and has been credited 112 days for his "inhuman" treatment in a Quantico brig in 2010-11. In a best-case scenario for Manning, he might be released before he turned 35

Manning got off light. Why not 35 years plus a 1,000

I think it would be quite easy to lose a key in 9 years... I've lost keys a lot more quickly than that...

Mr Manning strikes me as being pretty dim,a well meaning idiot.Puzzled as to how he was qualified as an intelligence analyst.

It is my belief that the "mere" 35 years he got is also a statement from the judge. Think about that.

the contract one enters into is fundamentally immoral

It was determined at the Nurembourg trials that "I was only doing my duty" was no defence against charges of war crimes.

But as far as I know OFSO, those on trial in Nuremberg were prosecuting their contracts 39-45 not speaking out against them.

In my opinion I don't think it's a valid comparison.

It will be fascinating to see the outcome of another American serviceman (Robert Bales) currently on trial, this time one who methodically actually killed 16 unarmed civilians.
BBC News - Sgt Robert Bales confronted by Afghan massacre victim

Will his sentence be longer than Manning's? Might he have parole earlier than Manning. The comparative verdict and sentencing will certainly send a message.

Ants know better that meteorologists when a storm front is coming.

Yes, Dak Man, I know. Question is WHEN does moral obligation overwrite contractual obligations. Never ? Always ? In between ? so who decides.

Sorry this needs some re-work. First off, Homeland Security and all of its minions gets scrapped, especially the TSA. Arport security takes form of "extreme prejudice profiling".

Dak Man - has it crossed your mind that possibly, just possibly, you are in a minority with your views and most of educated America simply don't agree with you?

Sgt Bales - If found guilty, no mitigating circumstances considered, sixteen life sentences to run consecutively.

It will be interesting to see what Sgt Bales gets.

Agree, TSA / Homeland security gone, but you'll have a lot of unemployable people unemployed

What I find incredulous is how the Australian media fall over themselves to get Assange’s reaction. For those not familiar with the Australian media, let’s just say that the great majority of them could have easily got jobs with Pravda during the Cold War.
I understand that Manning was essentially doing Assange’s bidding. What sticks in my craw is the gravitas the lefty luvvies in the Australian media give to the creep. They interview him with the same tone and style as they would an elected minister of state, conveniently overlooking the fact that he is nothing more than a self-obsessed alleged rapist who cowers in a foreign embassy.
