"If the ABC doesn't care about the Australian military or its history, tell me why the Anzac Day March in every capital city is shown live on ABC TV? Do the commercial networks do likewise? Who shows live on TV, the Dawn Service at Gallipoli. And another Anzac Day commemoration at Villers-Bretoneux? The ABC of course."

The Commercial networks often do show these live.

Either way, the left leaning wankers on the ABC might show the above
but that doesn't make up for the damage and crap they do in other areas.

Quote happy to run negatives regarding our involvement in recent wars
that didn't fitthe ABC agenda.

500N,

What is the 'ABC agenda'? Where are the details so that we may become, like you, enlightened!

Why the ABC distorts the news agenda

"Most reasonable people would think the Indonesians were angered by the spying but the ABC wants its audience to see Abbott as the villain.
The ABC sucks more than $1 billion from the taxpayers.
What’s more, Labor rewarded it for its support with more money and was prepared to twice ignore a tender process and award it with the Australia Network to pursue “soft diplomacy” on Australia’s behalf in our region.
The ABC is a bloated failure in the hands of ideologues. It should be stripped back to its charter, at the very least, or broken up and sold, if possible to commercial interests.
In a world of expanding media, the notion of a taxpayer-funded national broadcaster is anachronistic.
Those who want to keep “our” ABC, should fund it. Those who don’t should not have to pay for it. "
Why the ABC distorts the news agenda | Daily Telegraph Piers Akerman Blog

Spy story shows ABC at its left-wing worst

THE ABC emerges from the Indonesian spy scandal a diminished organisation, morally compromised and journalistically discredited.

Cookies must be enabled. | The Australian

The Tony Abbott Gov't doesn't fit the agenda of the abc so they run no end of stories on the Asylum Seekers to discredit the Gov't and make it look bad.
Yet as shown above, it did the opposite foe Labor "but the ABC wants its audience to see Abbott as the villain.
The ABC sucks more than $1 billion from the taxpayers.
What’s more, Labor rewarded it for its support with more money and was prepared to twice ignore a tender process "

"But the rank enthusiasm of the ABC in this story suggests it will go to great lengths to prosecute its endless war against the dark forces of conservative Australia."

Does that give you the gist of what the ABC Agenda is ?

De fund them and make them get any money they need
just like the commercial networks.

In fact, that might be a good campaign to start pushing harder on
as it achieves a huge goal of dismantling a lefty organisation

Does the ABC have an agenda ?

Or are you one of the blind left as SOPS put it so well.

No, I'm not so blind as to not see. Or understand, or think for myself for that matter. I don't need right wing dogma that's peddled by the Murdoch juggernaut. If Joe Citizen is unable to understand the facts, stiff but don't accuse the ABC of having an agenda without levelling the same accusation at the likes of Murdoch publications, 2GB in Sydney et al.

I chose not to read Murdoch's stuff, and I chose not to listen to the likes of Jones and Hadley. And, surprise surprise, I don't listen to the lefties such as Philip Adams on the ABC. Again, I ask and challenge anyone here to state what is the so-called ABC Agenda. 500N, you made the claim so why do you ask me?

OH, and I see that another right wing drone has joined the rabid right at Murdoch. The SMH on Tuesdays will be a much more enjoyable read.

Oh, don't worry, I am fully aware the Murdoch press has an agenda.
At least they state they have an agenda !!!
The ABC doesn't.

When I read anything or hear anything, I take it with a dose of salt
from the other side of the fence that is providing the info, that way
it tends to even out the report !!! Works for me.

Edit
"500N, you made the claim so why do you ask me? "

Because I am interested in your view, that's why.

Good discussion and all that
(unlike some of the lefty twaddle spilled by K&C et al ) !!!

I do not read the Murdoch press either; newspapers are so 'yesterday'. But I think that I am in tune with local community values and those with whom I work.

Why the obsession with Murdoch, Ken?

Remind me, Ken: how much of the Murdoch press is funded by the taxpayer?

And how much of the ABC is funded by the taxpayer?

Grasp that point and you may come part of the way to understand why the ABC must not only be impartial but be seen to be impartial. 50% of the voting population votes to the left, and 50% votes to the right (approximately) so a nationally funded broadcaster must not favour either side.

Once upon a time, newspapers and TV used to report the news: not editorialise any issue that takes a journo's fancy.

"And how much of the ABC is funded by the taxpayer ?"

Maybe I should highlight this from my post above.

"The ABC sucks more than $1 billion from the taxpayers."

FFS, $1 billion dollars.

The SBS do a better job across the board than the ABC.

Public funded broadcasters and any other media that seeks to appear impartial face a serious handicap in that reality has a significant 'leftist' bias.

John,

It matters not who owns what! No one has yet demonstrated that the ABC has an agenda or is indeed biased. The calls for ABC reform etc are coming from an almost solitary voice - the Murdoch press. The Right's PoV is just as well represented on the ABC as is that of the Left. If you look at their satirical programs, for example, they were just as hard on Rudd and Gillard as they were on Abbott.

In summary, this country would be much the poorer were the ABC gutted. The commercial media is neither interested nor capable of fulfilling the role of the ABC - there's no money to be made!

CRAP

The ABC is anti gun, anti hunting, pro the UN agendas, anti everything to do with that way of life even if it benefits native wildlife or stops suffering of native wildlife (ie over population of kangaroos that mean more die from starvation.

End of fcking story.

And if you believe otherwise, pull your head out of the sand.

And don't ask what are "pro the UN agendas", if you don't know then
you need to find out.

Why has the ABC not run with the story of Indos salvaging the HMAS Perth ?

They were quite happy to run a story on spying to damage Abbott
and others stories to help wreck his AS policy.

But no, we can't run a story that offends the Indos.

The ABC is doing everything it can to discredit the Abbott AS policy
and embarrass the Gov't. It is so bleeding obvious it is not funny
and even the media are writing about it.

And then the ABC director calls a review to check on bias !
(which of course will come out saying with a couple of exceptions, it isn't biased !!!).

The problem with comparing the ABC with the Murdoch press is that Rupert swaps sides as it suits him. Something which I haven't noticed from the our ABC.

I disagree: it does matter who owns what, especially publicly funded entities.

You only have to look at the standards demanded of our defence personnel to see that they are held to much higher levels of accountability than private enterprise employees. This should apply to the ABC and the value that we get for our $A1 billion per year. I note that the old advert referring to 8c per day should now read 11c per day, and the population has increased in the meantime, too!

A casual look at the ABC online will show a plethora of left-biased opinion pieces. The Drum: Barrie Cassidy, David Braue, Benjamin Jones, Mungo et al with very little balance from the centre, let alone the right.

I have no dog in the fight to reduce the funding nor to split off the ABC since I do believe in and support a national independent broadcaster. But I strongly believe that they have been allowed to develop an unhealthy bias which is not good for the country. (And I flew for them many years ago, when communist propaganda adverts were openly displayed on the walls of the newsroom. Unbiased, eh?)

Are you sure they weren't 'taking the Mickey'? Satire is not always understood.

Quite sure: I worked for them for about 3 years. Helicopter pilots love satire and can't understand why people think that running up and down runways to get airborne is a sensible alternative to real flying.

If you have any idea how a newsroom works then you could understand the morning starts with the CoS deciding on the primary news items for the evening news and allocating them to journos. That selection alone will come from the morning papers, generally The Age and online references.

Scheduled press conferences are covered, too, with news crews (journo & cameraman) tasked for the appropriate time and place. Breaking news is handled as appropriate.

That such a bunfight should be under the control of ideologues with a responsibility to be impartial should be of concern to all rational Australians.
