Now the Show is over there will be a bit less blether about who is the greatest Olympian.

My nomination is for George Eyser who in 1904 won six gymnastics medals (3 gold) in a single day.

Not bad for a bloke with a wooden leg.

HF, there is another way of looking at it, Ibbie is providing paid work for someone who may possibly not otherwise have been employed.

Advanced notice to all our correspondants living in Spain.
MWL and his gang are descending on you from Thursday this week, initially in the Torremelinos area for 7 nights, then three nights in both Madrid and Barcelona (a side trip to Valencia has also been mooted).
End

I trust they have all passed the "suitable to travel abroad" test and have certificates to prove it.

Also, they should have been in training for the higher than UK alcohol content of the beers here, which takes many a tourist from the UK by surprise followed by a trip to the whirling pits and ham shandy club.

Gday chaps in the misty isles -jolly good show all round - for what I saw of it! bloody media here are bloody useless-I mean to say that the backward hopping left handed popping shot champion never got a mention ! as one who laboured with skill patience, tolerance and total lack of PC as THE SOUTH LOAD ZONE SUPERVISOR at Sydney Airport at our waste of money that will never be paid back,(bloody well paid as well ---about what a third year public service clerk here would get but I got the job --three months off farm income because I could at least speak English) but the really rewarding part - and I would have done it for nothing was organising transport for the Paralympians They were wonderful people and I was proud to help out There was a young Pommy upstart who was my boss ,one Justin Pearce who was about to embark on a career in aviation (bloody boofhead) I think easyjet or Brittania Airlines -- He was the subaltern and Tony and I were old warrant officers -if you get the drift! If anyone knows this (was then )young smartarse I Would be pleased if they could put him in contact with we .I am still at the same addess and phone number.

Hello everyone: Great job UK on the Olympics. It played very well over here across the pond. Closing ceremony a bit strange. Must be my age! Didn't recognize most of the performers. Who was the bird in the leotard thingy who hogged the show? Even the commentators over here were struggling with what it was all supposed to mean. Although, that happens quite a bit! Still, overall, a successful two weeks.

and what were the silly hats with light bulbs on?

Now only the para-olympics to go before we get back to 24 hour a day football

Sue Barker had the right idea, sat there in her dressing gown all ready for bed as soon as the cameras went off.

Whilst we're on the subject can someone explain the Annie Lennox bit?
The best theory advanced in this household is that she was doing 'Rule Brittannia' and the wreck she was riding on was a symbol of the British economy.

Missed the closing show, but then, did one really miss something? Friends here intend to spend their next holidays in England after having seen so many relaxed Londoners on telly, well at least that's something.

Oh, we'll be moving house again shortly. First time in years one will be able to witness the swap almost first-hand...

Asked around the watering hole tonight re what the hell the Annie Lennox thing was about. Apparently it was to do with Bram Stoker's Dracula and Whitby.
Went over my head as well.

Hope the insomnia fairies leave you all to have a good kip in your scratchers.
