Leclerc is starting from 9th with medium tyres so he should pop to the top as people come in for their first tyre changes.

Well he'll pop somewhere. Those tyres ain't exactly going to be quick off the line, and for the first few laps will take forever to warm up. The question is whether he'll lose additional places before the stop.

It keeps changing! Kimi Raikkonen has also been disqualified from the qualifying results after his Alfa Romeo failed the front wing deflection test. He now starts from the pit lane and Leclerc starts from 8th on the grid.

Forgetfulness ....

DUH!!! Even as I typed that I was thinking that I'd forgotten something, but couldn't remember what* - thanks.

"So with Leclerc starting from 10th, and both ferraris [sic] .... "

That's okay, forgetting how to spell "Ferraris." It's the sort of thing that could happen to anyone.

Ferrari's tyre strategy looked good at first, but then poor Leclerc got strung out between the medium and soft tyres. Mercedes are winning at the moment, and that's boring for some, sure, but not by very much. Things truly are closer this year, and Honda have finally joined the mix at the top.

Daniel reversing into Kvyat was a little embarrassing, though. I wonder how the stewards will disentangle that one?

Ricciardo given three place grid penalty for careless driving.

Well four 1-2 for Mercedes in a row... I understand this never happened (at a season start)?
Ferrari is definitely one step behind, except in Bahrain where they managed to botch the whole thing. IMHO the constructor race is over as I strongly believe that RBR will become more of a nuisance to Ferrari in the coming months.

I am guessing that Lewis thought about it, moved into DRS range on Bottas, and then backed off, partly because he owes Bottas one, partly because he did not want to risk any possible collision, and partly because they all have to save their engines for the next few races. Bottas was full-on though, so all credit to him.

Meanwhile Leclerc chalks up fastest lap and driver of the day. Ferrari are not all bad. Lewis says he can see himself inside Leclerc.

I really don't understand that.

He improved from 10th to 5th, which given the equipment he was driving was a reasonable expectation. And he got fastest lap by virtue of being sent out on fresh tyres in clean air when his race was otherwise over.

I realise these things are subjective, but I would have thought that Bottas had a better claim. Obviously he won the race, but he fended off Hamilton at the very beginning and kept him at bay during the last couple of laps. In fact it was Hamilton who was pressurised into making a minor mistake close to the end.

With the rear view mirrors being so poor, I cannot understand bearing in mnd the amount of cameras the cars now carry, why they do not simply replace the mirror part with a monitor linked to the rear looking cameras. Thus giving the driver a better situation awareness as to the other cars in the race.

Perhaps the rear-view mirror is part of the original F1/road-car relevance remit? Makers of market or after-market rear mirrors will certainly be interested in making sure they stay on, regardless of cameras. Perhaps the addition of cameras could indeed help, and in heavy spray one system or the other might continue to serve.

Where would you mount the monitor?

My car has a towbar which makes a crunch sound when I get too close to the car behind when I reverse into it.

Drive to Survive

Finally got round to seeing the whole series. Is it just me, but is Max Verstappen the most obnoxious driver currently on the grid ? I know he is talented, but there is a difference between self confidence and sheer bloody arrogance.

Zandvoort could return next year in part due to Max's popularity!

In the mirror housing, It does not need to be a mirror then, but will give you a clearer and better view behind than the conventional mirror ever will.

as an example
