If Red Bull and Toro Rosso have been frustrated with the reliability of Renault engines, why would McLaren want to switch over to Renault? For once I agree with Bernie in the Wail:
"Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One's chairman emeritus, said: 'The Renault deal is all done. Alonso staying is super news. But I can't see why McLaren will be any happier with Renault than they are with Honda. It wasn't Honda's fault things didn't work out, it was McLaren's. Every day they had a fight about everything, instead of working with them, which was a little bit stupid.'"

RB are probably frustrated for the same reason McLaren are; they see a step change in performance with a better engine. Itís just that in RBís case, they simply see this as starting from a higher base level.

Thereís no doubt the Renault engine will improve McLarenís performance. The car is decent enough, theyíve got one great driver and one promising one, and theyíre confident that even with only the third best engine on the grid that the extra horsepower will make them regular point scorers with the associated financial benefits from both F1 itself and sponsors.

Iím afraid I donít agree with Bernie. Honda are the engine supplier, and after three seasons the lack of any progress on engine power and the appalling reliability really has to be laid squarely at their door.

Good for Bottas, he's earned it.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said: "Bottas' upward trajectory made it a no-brainer for us to continue with him into 2018.
Well, duh!

McLaren moving from Mercedes to Honda power - just as Mercedes come out with a dominate power unit - has to go down as one of the worst F1 dumbass moves of all time...

Together with Alonso's move from Ferrari.

Mercedes dyno tests have confirmed they have achieved an engine with a thermal efficiency of more than 50%, Singapore may not be the Ferrari walkover some are expecting

Maybe. But in the year they HAD the Mercedes turbo-hybrid engine they were pretty consistently rubbish with it - both Ferrari and red bull beat them, as well as Williams.

I gather this was mostly due to a poor (overly complex) car design and partly due to using a different fuel supplier to the other Mercedes engine users. The car was rubbish again in 2015, and only slightly better in 2016. It's really only this year that they could really claim that their good car was being held back by a poor engine IMHO.

That headline would seem to be putting a bit of spin on it. As I read it the reality is that Renault have told Red Bull to go stuff themselves after 2018 so they can focus on Maclaren and their own team, leaving RB with no options other than Honda or quitting completely (assuming that 18 months isn't long enough to develop their own competitive engine from scratch).

Oops...

Just watched the drivers' press briefing - Jolyon Palmer was down - he has obviously been told that he doesn't have a drive with Renault next year.

Lots of 'flak' concerning the Renault engine supply 'agreement'.
Renault wanted compensation from Red Bull, and, initially, requested the Australian driver but had to settle for the Spaniard - shame for the Englishman.
This means that Renault were proactive in dispensing with Palmer.

Another snippet - Horner dismissed the idea of a Porsche takeover in favour of . . .

. . . Aston Martin.

How will that work?

Mer-Say-dees or Mer-See-dees.
Why does Mark Webber pronounce it like that? Just to be different?

Hamilton moves towards veganism.

The pollution (in terms of emissions of global-warming gases) that is coming just from the amount of cows that are being produced is incredible," said Lewis Hamilton.
"They say it is more than what we produce with our flights and our cars"

Maybe he should do the maths on what floodlighting the Singapore circuit for a week produces.
Ridiculous wally.

"I don't want to catch cancer"
Has there ever been a more idiotic F1 driver ?

Lewis Hamilton; bloody good driver but dim as a TOC H lamp!
I felt a bit sorry for Jolyon Palmer yesterday watching practice and qualifying. He pulled his tripe out while knowing the team don't want him. How many times this season has his car failed him?

The race into turn 1 was always going to be interesting but from LH's perspective Xmas came early this year. Despite several safety cars he drove imperiously and takes a thoroughly deserved but totally unexpected victory, doubt any of us saw that coming.

Another race held at an anonymous-looking "street circuit" ruined by the modern fad for having a sharp corner only a few hundred yards from the Start.
Rain at start time to make the whole thing slightly less dull, but having experienced the sort of deluge that is available in that part of the world, I'd say they got away with it.
