Not sure where you're getting that from. We have another week and a half before we discover just which teams were sandbagging, and by how much. From the hints I've seen I recon all three of the contenders were keeping their powder very dry. If we take the tests at face value then Ferrari with be strong and Red Bull will be weaker, but we never really saw any qualifying simulations (from *anyone*) so the reality could be different in Melbourne. And we also should consider that Ferrari looked very strong in LAST year's pre-season testing, but it was the only time they looked strong for the whole season!

I'm not writing it off yet. The new formula is more of an aero formula, and RB still have The Newey. If pressed for a prediction I'd tend to go for Hamilton, but primarily because (in my opinion) he's the best driver in one of the contending teams. But I'm by no means confident in that prediction!

I'm hoping that Verstappen gives Hamilton a damn good run for his money this year.

I absolutely agree - it would be great to see more than just 3 race winners again, and if there isn't a particular technical dominance I think Lewis, Max, Sebastian, Kimi and Danny are all in the running, with Valtteri being the wildcard (because we've never seen him in a competitive car). As I said, I don't think we'll find out for sure until a week on Saturday when the teams have to trade-in their sandbags for grid places...

Oooh, Maclaren should be careful. It's tough changing engines this late - I mean the last time someone did a last-minute switch from a Honda to a Mercedes engine was the example that says it all...

Mrs Wolff already had nine points on her licence for two previous speeding offences.

Manor should have signed her up, more points than they managed to get.

She wouldn't have been done for speeding in a Manor.

Today's practice.. Hamilton 1/2 sec faster than anyone else.
Toto decided (or was forced by the board ) to take a commercial decision re the second driver rather than risk a true competition. Here we go again..

Bottas was fast and reliable in a second rate car; he wasn't a cheap option. Wehrlein would have been a (partly) commercial decision. Vettel and Alonso (the only other two who might conceivably have pushed Hamilton) were not available.

Who else should in your opinion have been a better choice, ignoring cost?

(Edited, OK possibly either of the Red Bull drivers, but again not available).

And now her UK driving licence has three times the total number of points won in 7 years of German Touring Cars. I like her as an individual but she does not have what it takes to be competitive in any racing car. Her place as a test driver should have gone to someone with a proven track record.

With only four engines for the whole season, we are seeing (Ferrari) restricting the number of laps they are doing during free practice.

I'm not suggesting that Bottas was chosen according to the cost of his contract.. that's small beer by F1 expenditure standards.. I believe that the commercial decision was taken to ensure a 2017 Mercedes dominance and championship win with a fast driver and a second reliable points winning driver team as opposed to two drivers with championship winning potential likely to be taking each other off while battling for the lead. And as for drivers being 'available'..The Mercedes budget could tempt almost any team to release a driver.

I saw an interview with Toto Wolff recently. He said that a team of 1500 people worked to design and build the 2017 cars. You'd want total domination with that kind of investment.

To be fair, both Mercedes drivers taking each other out only happened once last season.
