Just a slight drift, which, of course, is perfectly permissible when afloat, but has anyone any idea what has happened to Ark Royal, where is she, what is her fate, etc.?

In about 2003, when US-French relations were at a low-ebb ago I was sailing in mid-Med, from Menorca to Corsica.

On VHF 16, USS Enterprise flotilla group (the USN Med carriergroup) called out to a boat at position xyz, heading 130, speed 4knots. There was no response. A minute later, the call went out again, this time heading 135, speed 3.5 knots. I jumped down below to check it wasn't me, relieved that it wasn't the case, carried on listening. The calls went on for about 30 minutes, regularly every minute, always with a heading varying by about 20 degrees and a speed between 3 and 5 knots. It was evidently a rather purposelessly sailed small boat, enjoying a beautiful Mediterranean summer evening with some light breezes.

Finally, just before I was about to switch off the vhf, the boat replied, in a really strong French accent, "Bonsoir Enterprise, zis is zee voilier Colibri".

The evidently relieved reply came immediately:
"Good Evening Sailing Yacht Colibri, this is USS Enterprise, please state your intentions, over"

There was a pause, then:
"Bonsoir Enterprise, zis is voilier colibri, my intentions are to finish zis bottle of excellent rosť, then make love to my wife - what are your intentions?"

Ark Royal is parked up in Portsmouth awaiting a buyer.

They are flying kites shaped like hawks to dissuade the pigeons from pooing on the paintwork.

Ark's Admiral's barge is in Kirkudbright, considerably modified, in use as a sightseeing/rod fishing boat. They reckoned the engine was barely run-in when they got her. Mainly used as the officer's liberty boat apparently.
