I tried earlier to provide links to Gainesy's p*sts, but it failed to work.

I'm sure you can do your own searches in whatever forum you encountered his contributions . . .

Maybe some of you will give us the URLs of some of the best so that we can bolster the memory process?

Will someone compile a PPRuNe eulogy that we can share?

Bugger. I echo Ms SPs, comments. Better go and raise a reflective Nigerian. His humour could not be bettered. Double Bugger!

Condolences from Texas. We've lost an important part of PPRuNe, and a hard act to follow.

Been away from the board for a while.

Just heard the news.. scanning the headings and saw Gainesy's name and thought lets drop-in for some quality banter... the "Yes, Him" I always thought was a sterling classic!

Very sorry to hear this.

RIP Top Guy.

Oh, bugga. Sorry to be behind with things, but just saw the news. JB has lost a stalwart. He was up there among the JB regulars I'd love to meet and have a pint and a yarn with. My condolences go to his family and friends, and I hope that at the edibash we'll take a moment to reflect on his contribution.

Condolences to Mrs and the family Gaines

To the man himself - fly free the pain is over - now you can split the side off the heavenly throng - in the best possible taste!

A loss to this site and to aviation per se. One of the more perceptive posters and a great sense of humour, albeit nicely dry, to boot. R.I.P.

How very sad.

Whenever I saw his name to the left, I knew the text to the right would be well worth reading; informative, funny and often both. I'm also quite certain his sense of humour reached futher than his own posts and stretched to deliberately laying laughter traps which others might spring. This example of the Gainsey comedy tee-up came immediately to mind when I saw this thread and thought of him. I shall remember him with a fond smile.

My sincere condolences to those he leaves.

No details on funeral yet but Mike's wife has asked for no flowers. She would prefer donations to the hospice where he spent his last days, no doubt giving them hell. (St Catherine's Hospice in Crawley)

Initial plans are being made to set up a fund to contribute towards memorials in Gainesy's name from PPRuNers, and has his widow's approval. A new thread will be started shortly in reference to this once final details have been tweaked.

I had a PM chat with Gericault about Thread Baron and I attending the funeral - not an issue.

He also mentioned that Maureen, wife of Gainesy, had already seen the comments on JB and the Mil thread, so I don't think we need bother with a printout of them. There are some cracking examples of his humour on there, the one about Luton in particular, that had me grinning in fond memory. Great stuff!!

I will miss you, Gainesy. Like Stockie, tears being shed for a much-loved online friend who will be thought of often.

Safe journey home, mate.
