If One Wants to Leave PPRuNe.....

....how do we delete our account, or does it become an involuntary "legacy?"

Life is an involuntary legacy, so why not also the Prune subset?

Does anyone really need to delete the account if they want to leave PPRuNe?

Don't know if you're referring to yourself, but why start a thread? Why not ask the Mods directly?

Why bother the mods unnecessarily? Someone here might already know.

I just figured out how to delete a thread, but am now wondering about an entire account - all personal replies to other threads and profile.

Need to? I don't know. I can't see how anything I've submitted or been privy to could come back to "haunt." I am just wondering about the option --you know -- America, the freedom of choice? Some websites can delete an entire account; others only partially.

search your own user name, go into 'view all user posts' find any you don't want, and delete them. can't do it if they are locked threads though.

Try this: Become more and more abusive to your fellow members. Be as acerbic as possible. Post pornographic pictures in an ad hoc manner from Jet Blast to Terms of Endearment.

Taunt the mods. Post 11 Sept conspiracy theories, chemtrail threads and pointless political hot-button issues with an increasing frequency until you have reached a fever pitch of 1-2 per hour.

It won't be long until the end is near.

I think you can delete a thread ... but only one that you have started ... by deleting the first post (which is, of course, your own).

Otherwise admin or a mod might have to intervene if you wanted an entire account deleted ... don't really know how or if that would work, I don't think anyone has ever wanted to do that before. People usually just stop posting and go away.

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
Relax said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!

not sure why you would want an account deleted - most pepople are friendly on here (dont go into rotorheads - the one post I dared resulted in me looking like a C# and that was just them being friendly I guess

Only the mods can delete a whole account which will result in all trace of that ppruner being removed. Of course, that will leave them free to start a new name and new identity with the misguided belief that no-one will spot the name. However, you can just start a new identity with a different email address.

Most people just don't post anymore when they want to leave and a few post a heartfelt swansong saying that they are leaving and goodbye to all their friends etc but other people have made it impossible for them to remain yada yada yada. These people are merely posting a cry for help or are attention seeking and they always come back. Some do it on an almost annual basis.

Cheers

Whirls

...and Jofm5, your rotorheads thread was merged with all the other threads that have asked the same question over the years - that's all. Nothin c*** like in that at all - except your reaction to being merged. If you think that's bad, try Military Aircrew.

Post some top secret stuff on here that the Governemnt is trying desperately to hide like

Like George Bush is an idiot, Obama is from Planey Zeuses, Ronald Reagan was a Biped Dinosaur, Tony Blair is a vampire.

Give it a couple of days and men in polyester suits driving crap cars will ensure you and all you posts will disappear forever.

Perhaps an 'Eliminate this user!' button would be good. Clock up more than, say, twenty five presses of the button from other individuals and your account vanishes without trace.

Having irritated twenty five people that significantly, most would likely fancy the record erased anyway, and there it would be, done.
Two birds, one stone.

Oh for gawd's sake just bloody leave! If you don't ever come in then it doesn't matter whether you have a sodding account or not!

Why do people have to say "oh dear me and woe is me I've been treated so badly by XXXXXXX and YYYYYY that I can no longer live with myself if I stay as a member and so I am leaving, crying and distraught and PLEASE PLEASE don't try to persuade me not to go because my mind is made up".

Trust me - - - it really doesn't matter who the hell you are, if you leave then almost nobody will notice because there are thousands and thousands of other people posting every day!

Have a nice life outside PPRuNe.

Leaving PPRuNe

RT beat me to it! Its a bit like that coming in here.

However assuming twas a serious question: apply a modicum of self discipline and don't type 'www.pprune.org' into your browser would do it I think.
