What's the most useless gadget in your car?

I'll hold back on my nomination for a while, see if anyone else has an answer that agrees with mine.

The "high visibility pack", i.e. automatic wipers and headlights.

I blame the Germans

there's this rocker switch near the auto gearstick on my subaru that's labled 'manu.' and 'at'. i have no idea what it does apart from when i switch it to 'manu.' the word 'manu.' illuminates in the instrument cluster. nothing else changes. i would like to know what it does.

Had a Citroen once. A button would light up if you pressed it. That's all. Supposed to adjust the suspension setting, but made bugger all difference. Even as a lighted button it was useless. Too dim to see in the day, and with lights on it would light up anyway, but light infinitessimally more brightly if the sport setting was on.

Most useless gadget in several cars this morning seemed to be located behind the steering wheel and either had mobile phone clamped to ear or were applying another layer of warpaint whilst operating as a high speed hazzard to other road users.

Dud..I have a similar switch in a Ford..near the gear stick labeled "Power" and co". The only thing it seems to do is make a light come on. The fuel cosumption or power output does not change!!

Mercedes Benz electronic safety overkill

Electronic Stability Package / Electronic Brake Assist / Anti-Lock Brakes / Traction Control and about 3 other things that only someone with a German engineering PhD could decipher......

All of which were totally f*****g useless when last Winter I drove over sheet ice covered with 6" of new snow..... vehicle did a full 360 spin followed by another 180 and finally came to a stop with the dashboard bleeping and flashing like something demented out of Airplane 2 Alpha Beta base.

Solution? The second time it happened I pulled the sodding fuses and invested in proper All-Terrain tyres, rather than the std highway tyres. Never had a problem since through two 5 month -40C Winters and 14' (yes feet) of snow.

The most useless gadget may be the car itself: often, if you want to buy an 8-track stereo, you must also buy the attached '67 Dodge or Chev.

An airbag that doesn't work.
A speed limiter on the computer that is turned off while you're still in the forecourt of the dealership.

Yes I know its blown you twatting car, I just can't spare the 7 hours that it takes to remove the entire front of the car just to change a sodding lightbulb!!!

My old van had a rear view mirror that was only any good if you had the back doors open (they didn't have windows).

My Scoob has a switch marked "Bright".

When you switch it on the digital clock on the dash (about 3mm high) gets marginally brighter. Must be at least 10% of a difference. Whoopee.

The feckin warning beeps for just about everything. I know, you have to cater to the shallow end of the intelligence swamp for people like Gonzo, but for chrissakes, I know my keys are in the ignition. I know there is something on the passenger seat that doesn't have a seatbelt on (yes, it's dangerous to drive without your briefcase securely buckled up, but that's the risk you take). I know that I've put the damn thing in reverse............AAAArrrrrggghhhhhhh!
