Tessa Jowell

Anybody else think that her splitting with her husband is just her only option of remaining in her job and keeping pressure off TB etc etc.I predicted this last week.Logically, its her only way.

If, as she wants us to believe, that she was in the dark to her husbands' business affairs then, how can she possibly expect her to be 'on the ball' with governmental affairs if she cant control her own household?

From the Beeb,
Ms Jowell was recently cleared of breaching the ministers' code of conduct - because her husband did not tell her about a 344,000 gift.
I have a couple of things to say:

1) If she's married, why do they call her Ms Jowell?
2) Bugger the code of conduct, if you'd suddenly come into 1/2 a million Euros, how (or why) on earth could you keep that a secret from yer spouse...?!
3) Watch out for those Italians...

I would guess they are all 'at it' in different ways - it's just that some get caught.

Still wondering how Bliar managed to buy that 3.7m pad.

That's the non-specific term used to address all women, married or single, just about everywhere in the English-speaking world ... surely there is an equivalent term in your own country?

Its all right criticising him, but where would you put £344,000 now you can't invest in Tessa's any more?

Simple really. If the wife gets extra money or a lover the husband never knows, but if the husband gets extra money or a lover, then the wife gets the money and a divorce, the lover leaves the husband and the wife gets all the rest of the money.

I thought it was part of statute law.

They may have gone back to the beginning, or as they say these days, "square one", with "Mistress".

"Mrs" and "Miss" are abbreviations of "Mistress", as is "Ms". In my own childhood the full word "Mistress" was still used in respectful address to a married woman, not universally, but certainly in parts of Scotland, as in, to my mother: "Guid mornin' tae ye, Mistress Davaar". The whole "Mrs", "Miss", "Ms" blarney is so much hot air.

Yes, I understand, Davaar, I was merely puzzled about why airship queried the term. It is widely used pretty much worldwide and I was surprised that he or she seemed unaware of that. It's simply a neutral term of address that has come into popular use as opposed to the more traditional Miss or Mrs. Why would the woman not be addressed in such a manner?

I know you know, Mistress Blue. I was just adding a gloss. Of course, there was no firm rule. At some church function my mother was introduced to "Miss X", a pillar of the community.

As conversation progressed, it transpired that Miss X was the mother of five or so children.

Oh, in effect, said my mother, I beg your pardon. It's "Mrs X"; I had misheard it as "Miss X".

"Na! Na!", was the composed response, "It's 'Miss' a' richt, but Ah wisnae neglectit".

Here's to none of us being "neglectit," Davaar, Miss, Mrs., Ms., or Mistress.

Bliar declared her innocent - another conflict of interests if ever there was one, not to mention the kiss of death for the lady's career, mark 'ee my words.

Absolutely unbelievable that these people can think nothing about obtaining a sum of money worth more than most people's houses for which they are paying off the mortgage over their whole working lifetime. And that is the Labour Party!

As I am rather old fashioned I always find out how to address the lady with whom I will be conversing or indeed writing to, those who tell me they are Ms sadly always make me feel they are of the Dykish Clan, and I normally give them a wide berth,

Give me a good old fashioned Miss or Mrs anyday.

And in respect of Mrs Mills , I feel she is a spectre of the attitude in the current Labour ranks, and that is to keep your position and perks of office at all and any cost, Principals seem to be available for the highest fee whether from the Mafia or foriegn industrialists normally from India or Russia who will pay anything to be in the pocket of the current group of Ministers. I think the only one who cannot give any material objects is President Tonis new best mate GOD!!

Is it not possible that Tessa has ditched David for dropping her in the excrement by not keeping her informed about his "activities"? Assuming that she really didn't know about the alleged "bung" until this all surfaced.

Mrs Mills? Is she STILL doing honkey-tonk piano? They've kept HER quiet. Still I suppose Russ wasn't a sufficiently squeaky-clean image for Tony.

WRT MR Jowell - he's a LAWYER FFS! What do you expect?
