Bizarre / interesting Flight Deck Placards

Wonder what precipitated the requirement to manufacture and install a placard on the back of the Captains and First Officers seat in the 737, saying:

"THIS SEAT MUST FACE FORWARD FOR TAKE-OFFS AND LANDING"

Any suggestions, theories, or any other good ones?

Or that packets of nuts are labelled 'May contain nuts'.

I liked the one the other day on an edible product 'Manufactured in a factory that may contain nuts'. Nice to know they're doing their bit for disadvantaged employment.

Or the blurb on a bottle of Volvic. "This water had been slowly filtered trough miles of rock over thens of thousands of years" shortly followed by "Consume within 3 months".

Re: Bizarre / interesting Flight Deck Placards

Boeing seats have 'This seat is fast moving' placards on them!

Stating the obvious like this reminds me of when my flight manager wrote in a newsletter to us about how dirty we left the flight deck with litter strewn about and drinks spilled over everything. I wrote back that I would like to come to his office, and accelerate it to 500mph, rock it about 30 degrees either side and tip it up, violently shake it about, and then slam it into the ground at 150mph and see what happened to his cup of tea and biscuits. He didn't respond.

I used to carry a sign for hanging on the back of a pilot's seat on C-130s: "Smoking permitted at Captain's discretion" followed in smaller lettering by "No Spitting or [email protected]"

Working on the Dark Continent, malaria is a constant problem, and we have various rules thrust upon us: having to wear long trousers and long-sleeved shirts, for instance.

There was quite a lengthy list of do's and don'ts, and advice that the most at-risk period was from dusk to dawn.

Sunbathing was permitted, but we were advised not to do so during the hours of darkness.

The inertia reel on the back of a Hercules seat has a manufacturer's plate on it.
It suggests that the occupant and his oppo to the right are...

Re: Bizarre / interesting Flight Deck Placards

While not necessarily a placard, the Delta FAs use little calling cards to announce the Capt and FO on each flight. This one particular pair of pilots must fly together on a regular basis, as they had little cards made up with their names and pictures on them. Upon a trip up the aisle to the fron lav, I caught a good look at the pictures of the Capt and FO.

It was George Costanza and Kramer from Seinfeld.

Re: Bizarre / interesting Flight Deck Placards

Not a placard as such, but upon clambering into the back of a Hastings, this young ATC cadet was informed, by a neatly stencilled notice, that "SMOKE FLOATS". You can't buy information like that.

Re: Bizarre / interesting Flight Deck Placards

On the window-opening handles on Concorde's flight deck: "Do not open in flight"!

I once saw on the flight deck door (cockpit side) of an Aer Lingus 737 the following sticker: "Fly this aeroplane green side up".

Re: Bizarre / interesting Flight Deck Placards

I used to cut a piece off a Domino's pizza box and stuck it on the inside of the flight deck door, so as they boarded, our door was open and they saw a sign saying:
"Our drivers carry less than $20"

Re: Bizarre / interesting Flight Deck Placards

I once flew a Beaver that had been imported from Columbia. All the placards were still in Spanish, so now I know a master switch is el suiche maestro, the fire extinguisher is el extinctiero del fuego, stuff like that.

Re: Bizarre / interesting Flight Deck Placards

The Boeing Flighdeck seats I've seen read "THIS SEAT MUST BE IN FORWARD 7 INCHES OF TRAVEL DURING TAKEOFF & LANDING".Makes perfect sense to me.

Suggestion: On the 727 the seat backs all had the same placard for commonality in case a replacement was required but it was only the S/O seat that the placard really applied to. The 737 seat backs may be from the same parts pool and type certification hence the old placard is still there.

Favourite on the pax side of a 737 door: "CAUTION LIVE ANIMALS"
