Qantas, the service was abysmal and they were always late. (LHR-BKK-SYD and back)

Re: Worst airline you have ever flown (as a PAX)

Worst civil airline was United Shuttle between Seattle and San Francisco. The cabin crew berated us from the moment we stepped through the door until we left the aircraft. Even then one hostie was yelling abuse after a fleeing passenger. A truly amazing experience. Dunno how they stay in business.

Worst flight experience ever was with RAF Air Support Command - as it was at the time. On duty travel, stranded in Lyneham's "Route Hotel" (Hotel? Ha-ha!) for a week trying to get a flight back to Changi. Eventually managed to scrounge a gash seat on a Bristol Britannia cargo flight, headed east with a spare engine for a broken Belfast. Broke down in Muharraq, again in Gan and finally got back from my five day 'jolly' three weeks late, bedraggled, stinking and exhausted, only to be put on Duty Fitter for the rest of the week.
Par for the course, naturally. If I couldn't take a joke I wouldn't have joined...

Re: Worst airline you have ever flown (as a PAX)

Any flight on Merpati Nusantara
Overhead lockers bursting cabin filled with Kretek smoke (since banned)
Cockpit door swings open to reveal crew huffing away on Garum gudang while reading the Jakarta Post
On descent condensation pours out of cabin ceiling drenching front row pax
Taxying in after the most god awful IF approach imaginable see the wreckage of another plane shoved off the side of runway.
Gets many rupiahs ready to slip to check in wallah to ensure seat on next flight from hell.

Air France...HANDS DOWN! MNL-BKK...flight delayed. FA's were the most arrogant, rude bunch I've ever dealt with. My wife and I had to go hunt them down and practically beg for our lunch or even a drink! Never, ever again!

>>>Lyneham's "Route Hotel" (Hotel? Ha-ha!) <<<

Mmmm, a nightstop there. Ha ha indeed. When would you like to be woken sir? Time given, and off he goes. Now bear in mind this is a wooden building from the war. Clomp clomp clomp. Snooze clomp clomp clomp CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP clomp clomp into the distant corridor. Start to snooze again, when 20 yards away, someone is given their call.

WAKE UP...SIR. Clomp clomp clomp.

It seems that cabin crew have now taken it upon themselves to pay back all the nastiness that has befallen their kind since the Wright brothers. Fair enough, I have had to jump to the defense of ‘my girls' sometimes, people can be really shi##y, but c'mon...the SLF is paying the wages, there has to be real cause.

I have been spoken to in a way that said... ‘you try me...I'll show you what power I've got now.' (I only wanted a glass put my wine into.) I let it pass...but not any more.

Mrs R is about as near to Mother Teresa as you can get. She has also been married to a pilot for 40 odd years. (Mmm, now that seems an unlikely combination........but no, I suppose one would have to be an angel to put up with me all that time.) She is warm natured and always polite....unless she meets a pig with attitude. AA LGW to DFW When there were any flight attendants that were not in their little compartment, (WHAT DO THEY DO IN THERE?) they were fleeting in their attention. Time and time again the pleasant ones are being overshadowed by their rude and unprofessional colleagues.

Commuting across the Atlantic is something to be dreaded now.

Well, unless you are flying certain airlines. CSA was quite nice, as was Finnair. Delta was horrible as a simple pax, but they treat me much better now that I'm a FF.

Re: Worst airline you have ever flown (as a PAX)

Air Jamaica are truly appalling. Try getting a drink out of them, you'd get more blood out of a stone! Walked to the rear galley, "hi, can I have a couple of beers please?" get told they are in the centre galley, off I go to the centre galley. Guess the punchline? No they are in the rear galley! ARGH!! Go back to seat and press call button instead. No less than 4 CC waltz past, in the end I leaned into the aisle so they couldn't get round me! Only took an hour in total.
And the food? YEEUCK!

And don't get me started on the return, sat on the tarmac in Kingston at about 0030 an hour and a half after departure, doors open at the front and no airconditioning! Is there a problem, apparentely not! YEAH BOLLEUX!

Never,ever again!

Re: Worst airline you have ever flown (as a PAX)

I very glad that none of my former passengers from ‘Con-Air’ can report their experiences here on PPRuNe.

Or, are there?

PS. One could not really call them SLFs, (Self Loading Freight). Sometimes they had to be encouraged, if you know what I mean.

Re: Worst airline you have ever flown (as a PAX)

I would like to sincerely thank Ethiopian Airlines for a few things.

1. Thanks for the smallest seat I have ever had to cram my 6ft 4 frame into.

2. Thanks for the chicken bone you graciously shared with me for dinner.

3. Thanks for knowing how to operate the temperature control knob.

4. Thanks for the sweat equivalent of ten games of squash.

5. Thanks for hiring english competant cabin crew who can understand statements such as, " help me I'm dying of the heat."

6. Thanks for calling the flight 1:30 before boarding time, and then keeping us enclosed in the departure room.

7. Thanks for sharing a kiddies movie with us on your single little tv screen.

8. Thanks for losing my luggage. Bi-aaatches

But to end it all off, THANKS FOR TAKING OVER THE TITLE OF THE ******* AIRLINE IN AFRICA. I HATED HAVING TO TELL EVERYONE THAT MY OWN COUNTRY'S AIRLINE WAS THE WORST I'VE EVER BEEN ON.

SAA WILL THANK YOU TOO.......

Unfortunately I have come across this "lights down temperature up" on a UK charter airline (UK Leisure) which I once had the misfortune of travelling across the atlantic with. Unfortunately many cabin crew see passengers as an inconvenience that they have to suffer in order to earn a living.

Re: Worst airline you have ever flown (as a PAX)

It has to be Nigerian Airways. In the late 70's had to position from Banjul to Freetown. Flew 1st class. Drink orders were taken on loo paper and there were no mixers except water. The flight was 2 hours late(no problem) but no communications so just waited for flight to arrive. The route was from Dakar to Lagos stopping almost everywhere. Rumour has it that a certain Nigerian Airways 737 Captain operated the route from Lagos to Dakar, kicked everybody off - including all crew -tanked up the plane then flew solo to Freetown for a passionate night with his girlfriend and flew back to Dakar in time for the Dakar-Lagos service the next morning. Also had to position from Lagos to Kano during the Hamattan(dust storm that attacks that area at a certain time of the year). There were twice as many passengers as seats and it was a race. The first ones to get to the plane and run around it got seats. OK you dont believe me but it's true

Erm, if it is going to be that bad, fly with someone else...

Never really had an experience to compare with the ones on here, thankfully. However, the Malev Tu154 was interesting - smoking one side of the aisle, non smoking the other...

Air France.

It's their attitude and not taking any responsibility for their passengers. They wash their hands of you once you're off that plane.

Re: Worst airline you have ever flown (as a PAX)

Quantas - I fell asleep on a flight to Sydney to be awoken by the steward pushing the food trolley into my kneecap (I'm over 6 foot and have to "assume the position" in economy. I limped for two weeks in Sydney and emailed Quantas customer services to ask if I could have an extra legroom seat on the way back. They said they would put my name on a list at check-in and should be able to help.
When I got there the lady said that I had been allocated a wing seat but because I was not able-bodied I would have to sit in my previous seat! As I was only limping a bit by this stage I gave them a couple of twirls and they agreed that I was fit enough to sit near the wing. However, the seat they gave me was by the toilet block and I spent the next 20 hours having my legs and feet stomped on by a constant stream of passengers doing their DVT stretches while waiting to use the loo. There was one particular family of four who used the facilities after every meal and to a man/woman/child they tripped over my legs on every visit!

Re: Worst airline you have ever flown (as a PAX)

Not in the same league as some of the others, but I used to frequently fly CWL-GLA with BA. They charged me £392 for the privilege <£392!!!> and on several occasions the buffet trolley wasn't loaded so they couldn't even give me a cup of coffee.
Thankfully BA no longer operater from CWL (couldn't get enough passengers, would you believe?!) making way for a far better service to operate, LoCo notwithstanding.

Re: Worst airline you have ever flown (as a PAX)

East China Airlines. World's oldest DC9. Armrest of seat fell off. Stewardess grunted and took it away. Shortly afterward entire seatback fell, off leaving me effectively sitting on a stool. Not a word said as it was added to the growing pile of sundry parts in the galley.
