RIP Agent 86

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor and comedian Don Adams, best known for his role as the bumbling secret agent Maxwell Smart on the television espionage spoof "Get Smart," has died of a lung infection, his agent said on Monday.

All but forgotten that series!

Sort of crazy humour that always made me laugh.

Used to love that series when I was a kid, remember the closing titles where he was striding down a corridor with sets of automatic doors opening just before he got to them, all except the last pair which he crashed into.

My local library has three sets of barriers and doors which detect you and open on your approach and every time I go there that title sequence springs to mind!

Angel

One fact that a lot of the obits of D O N Adams is not reporting is that he was a former U.S. Marine that served in WWII and was in the battle of Guadalcanal.

I did love his show “Get Smart.”

Edited for oops!

... and who got 99?

Another era over. But at least we still have the Get Smart re-runs.

Talking

Did you get that, Max?

Not all of it Chief.

What part didn't you get, Max?

The part after "this is what I want you to do"

Chief, don't you think we should talk about this in the Cone of Silence?

Looks like KAOS gets the upper hand.
RIP Maxwell Smart

Click here to link to some old shots of the Get Smart gang - aha, the old click here trick, eh. We'll see about THAT then.

One of my favorite lines came from the episode where Max & 99 went sailing on their honeymoon and Max blows up the boat, stranding them on a deserted island. They can't find any food, but they find footprints. They track the footprints, which lead to a hut inhabited by Siegfried and Shtarker. The island is an artificial island, built by KAOS and commanded by Siegfried who installed a giant magnet which measured about half the size of North Dakota and had enough power to pull the entire US Sixth Fleet into the island, then an even bigger magnet beneath the island will pull ships to the ocean bottom. Max turns to 99 and says "That's the second biggest magnet I've ever seen"

I used to wonder why my hand creme was always running down so quickly after Get Smart.
Mrs Palmer had the benefit of it, did she?

Now listen here, Chook. I had to put up with my MIL for 30 years before she mercifully popped her clogs. I'm not going to inherit a cyber MIL to replace her. Now bugger off back to your pen and concentrate on eggs.

If you want to play with your pc in public, you get no say in whom your relatives are.
But as far as choosing friends - well, the less said THERE, the better. It seems to me you and Jerricho have feathered your own nests.
...and Oil of Ulan no less. You WERE a smutty little one even back then, weren't you.

From 'Island of the Darned' - (1966)

Max and 99 are trying to decide how to cross a dodgy rope bridge strung over a deep gorge.

Max: Well, I think we should go across together.

99: Why?

Max: Well, if we fall, we'll have someone to talk to on the way down.

Mrs Sid and I used to watch Get Smart religiously out in HK. We still use our favourite catchphrase, along the lines of;

Aah! The old, forget to switch the diswasher on trick!
and
Aah! The old forget to put the washing powder in trick!
etc.

RIP 86, you made a lot of people laugh.

Appointment in Sahara.

Behind the two characters is an image of a mushroom cloud:

99: Oh, Max what a terrible weapon of destruction.
Smart: Yes. You know, China, Russia, and France should outlaw all nuclear weapons. We should insist upon it.
99: What if they don't, Max?
Smart: Then we may have to blast them. That's the only way to keep peace in the world.

Rats! Missed by that much!

Chook, if you persist in giving up my secrets I may have to start on some of yours, and you have a lot more to lose!
