Merry Xmas everybody

Just heard on the local news that the powers that be at Manchester Airport have banned the playing of Slade's Christmas record. Anyone know why, something to do with 'PC' perhaps?

If I can have that in writing, I'll be spending Dec-25 at MAN...

I'm sure it was a decent song in the 70s, but it's become one of music's biggest cliches. As for "everybody's having fun", it's probably not what you want to hear if you have to work xmas day.

I'm down for 12hr nights christmas Eve and Christmas night, but it's not going to spoil my Christmas. It's what you put into it and on the positive side, no suits breathing down your neck.

Slades Xmas song has to be one of the best drunken singalongs of all time. Shame on the people at Manchester

Bah Humbug!

I don't think it's been banned for any PC reasons, I think it's been banned because people are sick and tired of it, it's been played to death so much over the last 20 years...
Do you know if they've also banned "I wish it could be Christmas every day" by Wizzard as well?

What christmas record do you never want to hear again in your entire life?

On the other hand, perhaps the finest Christmas song is I believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake.

The lyrics really sum up the bollocks that is Christmas.

On the other hand, the one by the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl was brilliant - "Merry Christmas you arsehole, let's hope it's our last" - what poetry!

Heard that f ing Cliff Richard has got a Christmas single out this year. No doubt it'll be a god-awful load of sentimental !

How about the Red Cross banning Christmas imagery (again - PR doesn't mean much in that organisation!) in their shops to avoid offending non-Christians. Particularly funny when said non-Christian pipe up to tell them what a bunch of idiots they are and such actions are more offensive and patronising than letting things be!!!!

Assumedly, the Red Cross will soon be changing their name to the "Red Two-equal-length-rectangles-arranged-at-right-angles-to-each-other" so as to avoid any relation to the Christian symbol!

That garbage about Snoopy and the Red Baron, whatever it's called. If there really is a God and a Santa Claus, every single copy of said tripe will vanish in a puff of taste....

Best one was the (Monty Python?) p1sstake "It's Christmas in Heaven..."

Bah humbug to the lot of you, you jolly fine folk

Ali Barber

You scumbag, you maggot. You cheap lousy faggot. Happy Christmas yer arse I pray God it's our last.
Totally agree, what absolute quality lyrics for a Christmas song.

In answer to the thread, I understand that MAN airport conducted a survey of passengers as to what they wanted to see in the airport at Christmas. Slades little ditty came out as one they didn't want so it was binned. More decorations & carol singers are to be the order of the day.
This got me a-thinking. Most passengers spend about 2-3 hours in the airport on average. Are they really that bothered about what christmas decs are hanging round. Surely they should have asked the poor staff who have to work there day after day what they would like?

Agree with Ali Barber and Big Tudor. The Pogues 'Fairytale of New york' is pure quality.

We don't get Slade's song over here. What we do get ad infinitum is John Lennon's And So This is Christmas, which I think has held up pretty well over the years.

Along the bah humbug line, Kevin Bloody Wilson springs to mind with his touching description of a child's inbuilt and innocent ability to look past the commercialism and appreciate the true meaning of the season... "Hey Santa Claus, you C**t! Where's me f**kin' bike?"

Awww Bins, you beat me to it. I'm working Christmas day and am compiling a "Christmas song" CD to take into work. That's on it. Anybody ever see the Christmas Special the South Park guys did, with Mr Hankey the Christmas Poo singing "Have yourself a merry little x-mas", and Mr Garrison's "Merry f**king Christmas". Brilliant stuff.

And as in previous rant, Simon Cowell's band of merry little overhyped wasters have released a cover of "So this is Christmas/War is over". What a load of [email protected] Sombody just end it!

Can we declare 2004 a no cover version year? For anybody! (And ban Sir Cliff from ever releasing a song again?)

For Fck's sakes it's not even December yet! Bah Humbug indeed. The shops have had decorations up for a fortnight already. No wonder people are sick to death of the whole bl**dy shooting match. As for being sick of these songs I'm not surprised, on the radio yesterday they figured out how many times the average shop worker had to listen to them in a shift. If they were POW's the red cross would be prosecuting their bosses under the Geneva convention.
Me I'm off to buy a copy of
"Christmas is a pain in the Arse" by the Accelerators.
