Arrow Fraseologicamente parlando...

"Tower Y-XXXX: unable to comply, due to unrecognizable reporting points"

Urbe questions

Prego,

Could anybody explain how to transition from IFR to arrive to URBE airport and also how to transition to IFR on departure ?

Is prior permission required to arrive there ?

Is handling mandatory ?

Is it possible to stay overnight?

Is the airport safe to leave the aircraft overnight ?

Taxis to Rome available and how much would they cost?

Thanks

Ciao

1)Usually you will be instructed to join CMP VOR HP then descend with visual contact and join standard VFR routes. The transition from IFR to VFR is quite similar: join CMP or URB NDB holding pattern, climb to a minimum altitude, then continue your flight IFR

2)No idea

3)as far as i know there is no handling in LIRU

4)Same as number 2, however i suppose there will be no problem

5)No idea

6)You have to phone them... Rome is a huge city, the cost will depends on how far you want to go. There is a train station just few minutes away

Gracie mille Tiennetti.

I guess the landing and parking fees are cheaper than in Ciampino (LIRA), right ?

BTW it seems that the airspace may be closed due to Dubya visit to Rome.

What would be the closest GA airport to Rome not affected by the airspace closure (Perugia maybe) ?

Thanks again for your help

Ciao

Absolutely right!

Have a look to Viterbo, it is closer than Perugia but i don't know if you can leave your aircraft overnight

Viterbo is a military airport, and you need PPR to land there, as far as I know.

There are a bunch of strips around Rome, all not too far from town but none really well connected with public transportation to the city, and getting a taxi to/fro those strips can be quite expensive.

If you need any further help, feel free to get in touch with me via private message or email.

Ciao, Luca

If you are good, and the airplane permits, over URB cancel, roll inverted, "valsalva manouver", split S....call downwind!
Have fun in Rome!

Avoid Urbe.
