ENAC
Ciao,
Excuse the english tongue. My Italian goes as far as filthy words and cheap pick up lines. I might be heading over to Italy in Sept/Oct ish and I was wondering how I would go about getting a license validation based on my Canadian CPL? I did some research and I believe the authority in Roma is ENAC???? But I've heard alot of stories about people walking away with nothing but headaches, and empy wallets from giving out bribes. Is it even possible to get an ICAO license validated for 30 days in Italy? How do places like Aeroclub Roma or Aeroclub laquila feel about checking you out with just a validation? Is there anyway I could start the process from Canada before I go?
Grazi,
ciao

Hi, don't worry about writing in englishwe are all supposed to know it rather well, aren't we?
Anyway, I'm not really sure you could get a temporary validation for your canadian CPL, I'm afraid you should do all the theoretical exams again and then have a check with an instructor, this one should be made in a FTO I'm afraid. Maybe it's like european pilots who trained in the USA,and then need to do exams again in order to obtain the JAA validation.
However, should this be the route to be followed, I wouldn't suggest you to do it in italy because beurocracy is some of the slowest ever, and you would waste a lot of time and patience. Guess what, last year I waited 6 months only to receive my license.
This is what I think about your problem, but I'd like someone else to confirm what I've told you!
Bye

Good luck
You must really love Italy to come all the way from Canada to find a job here!
I know It's none of my business but if you could please tell us what u need a license for we may give u some better advice?
I'll be home next week but I'm sure some of the guys could give you the numbers, i seruiously doubt you'll find someone who speaks decent english.
If you really have time to waste try www.*** .
Unfortunately most of the terrible things you heard are true.
Good luck, u definetely need it!

Well, maybe you won't need any validation at all since you're supposed to fly as a private pilot with no paying passengers..and bla bla bla. Where exactly are you going in Italy? Some FTOs are better organised than others so they may be able to enlighten you about everything. However I'm almost totally sure you'll be able to fly with your own lincense without anything else.
By the way, the FTO I'm currently training at, has a canadian girl in the staff so she might be very helpful in case of..need for translation :-) :-P

Ubi,
in my opinion you definetly need a conversion of your licence as per JAA-FCL1 rules if you have to fly any Italian registered aircraft whatever your purpose is.
Go to the Flight Training Organization closest to you and ask them.
I am not sure but maybe this could be a not so complicated issue... If you are lucky you'll have only to wait for bourocracy times (and that sounds not good as well to say 'cause we are famous for slowliness, i know! yeah, anyway!!)... Otherwise they could request you to pass some conversation exams, as someone else was saying...
Anyway, goodluck!
