Question Anyone working out of Rome?

I'm looking online trying to find a good place for apartments to rent but it's all short-term summer deals.
Also I'd be curious about what you think of Italy as a place to live, are you pretty much required to speak italian or can you get by with english while you learn the lingo?
Food etc, expensive or not? We're talking outside of Rome so I'd guess it would be a high cost. Any suburbs to watch out for, and so on. I think you get the general idea

The great thing about Italy is that most of the women aren't British.
