Wizzair-2 cadets

How is the recruitment carrying on for type rated candidates? Are they still sending out invitations?

Giuff 15th Aug 2021 08:36

Yes. 2 or 3 events per week. High fail rate.

Banana Joe 15th Aug 2021 08:39

Can you translate high fail rate in how many people are invited and how many pass?
Do they have plans for non type rated candidates?

And what about those that were in the training process before Covid arrived? I have a close friend that received a contract but never started his course.

PilotLZ 15th Aug 2021 09:34

Everyone I know who's been to an assessment say that it places a very heavy emphasis on non-technical skills, personality and attitude. They don't ask for any alien level of technical knowledge (which some other companies do), but the HR part of things (individual and group) can make the deal for an averagely knowledgeable and experienced candidate or break it for a highly experienced one who knows the FCOM by heart. I know pilots with over 10,000 hours who failed and pilots with 300 hours who passed.

DS1 15th Aug 2021 11:06

Not sure that’s right. Heavy on technical, not interested in personality.

Solo521 15th Aug 2021 12:02

Giuff

Congratulations for being successful!
I will be attending the assessment in the next days and I don't really know what to expect in the simulator being rated with no hours, Do they put more emphasis on the procedures or the manual flying? (I am expecting something similar to a shortened LPC).
Regarding the theoretical knowledge test, any advice on which subjects appear the most?

Thanks in advance!

gpsprimary01 15th Aug 2021 12:12

We were 35 and 10 only passed the final stage which is psychometrics and psychologic (It last +/- 3H).
According to lot of pilots it was their hardest assessment. For us it was mainly technical questions and operational questions.

You can expect anything, they don't ask the same questions to the candidate.

Does anyone knows in which base the new joiners from EU countries may expect ?
They asked to several people if they are interested on Abu Dhabi base.

For the one who has the assessment the following weeks, study your thechnical and procedures, also ATPL like weather (they asked what is warm and cold front) Also RWY characteristics and lot of questions about clearway ASDA TODA etc.....

Good luck to all.

gpsprimary01 15th Aug 2021 12:17

Solo521

I'm just gonna tell you what I felt and what I saw when I attend. In our session, they only kept pilots with lot of experiences and coming from legacy airlines such Emirates, etihad, Qatar and cathay. All the pilots with less experience didn't pass ( I repeat, in our session). It doesn't mean it's a general trend.
I wish you good luck.

Solo521 15th Aug 2021 12:23

gpsprimary01

Thanks for your thoughts, I will do my best!

PilotLZ 15th Aug 2021 16:30

Those who get grilled on the technical interview are usually the ones who get a FO as their assessor (and that's not uncommon in any LoCo). Young guys tend to know their ATPL subjects far better than many of the experienced lot, most of whom don't really do much reading beyond their Company OMs. They also tend to be far stricter in the sim, requiring exact adherence to procedures, callouts etc and expect a black-and-white answer to everything.

Giuff 15th Aug 2021 17:13

Solo521

If you are low hours expect raw data flying for the whole assessment.

Alrosa 15th Aug 2021 17:37

Assuming successful non-TR candidates (if there are any) decide to join, what are the arrangements for paying for the TR? Payment in cash or bond ? I’m not expressing an opinion on the rights/wrongs of paying for Type Ratings, but I am curious.

Giuff 15th Aug 2021 17:39

I doubt they will take any NTR for the time being, other than cadets. Lots of rated pilots around.

dirk85 15th Aug 2021 17:41

10 out of 35 is not such a high fail rate.
My experience from 6 years ago was that out of 25 people 3 passed, similar as all the other people in my occ.
Out of those 10 a good percentage will never get any contract, either because they will have found better in the meantime or because they will be offered less than ideal bases by the company

dirk85 15th Aug 2021 19:59

All I am saying is that given the amount of applications they must have right now, 28% pass rate is actually not so bad.
Also true that the quality of the applicants has gone up, given the mass redundancies going on around the world in well established airlines.

MCT SET 15th Aug 2021 20:26

Is that their policy right now no NTR only cadets?

CCFAIRPORT 16th Aug 2021 07:57

W6 will close 2 bases : Dortmund and riga

Hawker400 16th Aug 2021 08:33

They haven’t called any non-type rated cadets but all my rated colleagues with no experience who applied have gotten invited. Unfortunately the slots get taken in 15 minutes. I don’t think there will be NTR cadets for a long time seeing as how they haven’t made a lucrative business to train cadets like FR

gpsprimary01 16th Aug 2021 12:04

Hi All,

does any knows, guess or any rumors about the bases for the new joiners?

In which bases do they have shortage?

Thanks

Sick 16th Aug 2021 18:11

No disrespect to co-pilots, but in the two airlines I worked where they handed over pilot selection to co-pilots (albeit in tandem with an HR person), there was a steady stream of awkward odd balls coming through. If a company really wants pilots selecting pilots, it really needs pilots who have been working with other pilots for many many years to have an instinct for telling apart the good from the bad. I've always been of the opinion that engineers or handling staff would choose a better class of pilot. Recruiters tend to hire in an image of themselves - so give it to pilots, and you end up with yet another egotistical young aerosexual!

dirk85 16th Aug 2021 18:15

Giuff

True. But the wheel will turn.
Wizzair will feel the pain when the people that are hiring now will walk off without notice, as soon as the market picks up, soon enough.
There was a time not many years ago when in Budapest HQ there was panic every month the day after payday, since many would just not show up at the crew rooms in the morning, giving them the proverbial middle finger.

FGE319 16th Aug 2021 22:20

Which leads me to wonder why another company would want crew who refuse to stick to contracts, as it would lead me to wonder what other rules they'll bend/break.

As I've always said, if you don't like a contract, don't sign it. It's as simple as that. If a company can't find enough crew for what they are offer, they'll have to offer increased Ts&Cs.

Newcomer2 16th Aug 2021 22:31

You don't seem to understand that the company didn't respect the contract that the pilots signed. When the company only gives you half of your basic salary due to forced unpaid leave, and also having a forced paycut on the other half due to a new arbitrary covid payscale, people don't feel obligated to fulfill their part of the contract either.

booze 16th Aug 2021 23:37

Also i still fail to understand the jurisdiction of a Confair contract. According to a lawyer and labour expert it's not even worth the paper it's printed on. Of course there might be other opinions too.

SaulGoodman 17th Aug 2021 21:03

Knowing the owners of Confair a little they are probably right. Parc, Randstad are maybe not perfect but they are professional in a sense. Confair is only working with second tier companies for a reason. The people you have to deal with in confair are completely clueless!

truckflyer 18th Aug 2021 00:57

Sick

You clearly not aware of the Wizz recruitment methods. Nevermind.

FGE319

And you must be living in the world of fairies and elves. Clearly not seeing the reality of the world.

Stick to your principles, and maybe you never fly an aircraft again / ever.
Pilots struggle to stand united, look at the "great" unions within Wizz and Ryanair, they are spectacular in how useless they are unfortunately.

dirk85 19th Aug 2021 08:41

Unions are only as strong as their members. If they suck in those companies it is because the pilots don’t have what it takes to stand up.

A321drvr 20th Aug 2021 03:05

In Wizzair's case none, zip, nada. In Ryanair's case they managed to circumnavigate the "issue" with Buzz, Malta Air, etc.

Pearlharbour 20th Aug 2021 07:14

Ryanair Unions are not strong enough BUT in case of WIZZAIR pilots are completely unprotected. Anyway in both Rosters are crap. They are flying 100 hours in 28 days BUT again in WIZZAIR due to lack of pilots they have no roster, just random roster.
Conclusion, no money, no quality of life, fatigue etc etc etc....
WIZZAIR is a company to avoid, a toxic place to be right now. It was not before the pandemic but now I strongly suggest you to stay away or even fly a Cessna 172 in your country as Flight Instructor and you will make more money and will stay at home with your families.
For Captains, be prepared to fly with inexperienced pilots, not seeing your families, in difficult countries, flying to the limit and earning peanuts 🥜.

good luck

Banana Joe 20th Aug 2021 08:19

A321drvr

What have they circumnavigated exactly? DAC and Malta Air have unions in the countries they have bases, and conditions improved since then.

I leave to you Buzz, but some love being contractors in good times as it can be quite profitable.

TorqueStripe 20th Aug 2021 08:34

And what about Lauda Europe's new contracts paying only 40EUR/block hour with no hourly guarantee?

WizzAir Recruitment 2021

Hi Everyone !

Anyone went to the Wizzair Pilot Assessments recently and would be kind to give us a short feedback ?

Thanks :)

Miraan 22nd Aug 2021 14:20

Hi all
I was there few days ago
The day starts with a presentation of wizz
Toguether with consitions of employment and some companys plans for the future
Then we got the exam and after group exercise
I didnt make it to the second stage with other 5 people
Only 10 made it to the sim and 6 passed all the process

Was a really nice experience and we all had a warm welcome , had the chance to see old friends and to chance to meet other great people
All wizz people where very friendly , polite and professional
I have been reading here coments and posts about terms and conditions etc etc
And now that i was there i can say that conditions are very good and with expected fast and great career progression

Looking forward for the 12 months to pass so i can apply again.

Banana Joe 22nd Aug 2021 14:37

Can you expand on "conditions are very good"?

Miraan 22nd Aug 2021 15:02

well dont remember all numbers , basic pay even during training , with acomodation , transport etc
after line training basic pay plus landings plus km and compensation in case you fly on day off , out of base , etc etc
ofcourse as more you work more you earn , and for example as i am the kind of person that doesnt like to be home bored i prefer to work 😁
as i said the lucky ones ho pass all the process ( in my opinion ) can espect good salary ( even on now a days with pay cuts around europe ) and good progression

papalovesjumbo 22nd Aug 2021 15:12

Thanks for the feedback. Nice to see people not trashtalking after rejection. (assuming you are real :))

Miraan 22nd Aug 2021 15:19

welcome , i take it as a positive experience , i have learn more about wizz and about what my future can look like there , every assement even if we fail is always a experience and we always learn from
It , if i get called again i will try to go more rested ( i arrived there after 15 hours driving and only 3 hours of sleep ) and i will also try to be more prepared

PilotLZ 22nd Aug 2021 17:54

Sorry to hear that you haven't been successful on this attempt. But, just as the previous posters, I would like to congratulate you on having such a positive attitude. Many people get very bitter after an outcome which was not the one they had hoped for. It's good to see that not everyone is like that.

Six out of how many people passed?

Captain Spam Can 22nd Aug 2021 21:28

A friend of mine went for interview, he was asked to explain String Theory, I think their future plans involve the USS Enterprise.
