BA Cityflyer MPL (2018)

http://www.ftejerez.com/selection/?company=bacityflyer

thisishomebrand 8th Jun 2018 10:37

£90k price tag although the type-rating is paid for by Cityflyer

Inmric 9th Jun 2018 12:02

Has anyone further information about the selection process and if they are interested on non-UK nationals? (Even if they put they are, as always) I have read the previous years topics already, but any updated or additional info is welcome

Thanks!

Curious if anyone has a rough idea of the usual amount of applicants?

300/400 apparently

Shows the difference doesn't it? BA Cityflyer (and most other airlines) charge 90,000 and get 300-400 to choose from. Aer Lingus make the scheme open to everyone and get to pick from 3000-4000.

Stretch19 11th Jun 2018 21:27

Yeah, I'm not quite sure where the 90,000 would come from if I managed to get through. Would have to find a loan somewhere I guess.

Chris the Robot 11th Jun 2018 21:28

You just have to look at the threads on here, compare TCX, BACF and Cityjet to the Aer Lingus one which is 17 pages before anyone has even been to Dublin.

They will I reckon get more than enough who meet the standard, they might not be quite as good as the successful Aer Lingus candidates but the airline would be able to argue that at the latter stages it's very close and quality is largely subjective.

Shame it's not on ability though.

Have just sent off my application answers now - first time applying for anything like this. Best of luck to everyone else applying this year :-)

04jharrison 20th Jun 2018 20:38

Sent off my application, has anyone gone for this and the Flybe MPL also?

Haven’t gone for the Flybe one... when did that open (and with FTE also)?

lima_golf 20th Jun 2018 21:17

Just wondering if anyone got a confirmation from FTE that their application was received?

I didn't, but if you log back on to the application area it will show your answers as greyed out - I guess that's how you know it's been received...

04jharrison 21st Jun 2018 21:11

I had a notification when I started the application but not when I had formally submitted. I checked my emails and this was the same for Flybe, so they should have received it! :)

KieronyM 25th Jun 2018 08:26

Just received the good news about an interview today - admittedly much earlier than expected! Anyone else going on the 6th July or heard yet?

04jharrison 25th Jun 2018 09:07

Nothing as of yet, I’m hoping my Flybe application hasn’t derailed this one 🙈.

04jharrison 25th Jun 2018 17:01

Did hear back today, it was a no, but a little surprised considering the application was essentially the same as Flybe one, hopefully I’ll find out more tomorrow!

Sad to hear it, would have loved to have someone else on the forum sharing the experience :-(. It sounds to me as though they don't want to interview anyone already in the midst of another application as I suppose it's a way of whittling down applicants. Seems a little unfair seeing how competitive these are though. What stage are you at with Flybe?

04jharrison 26th Jun 2018 21:28

HI KieronyM,

Had the assessment and initial interview for FlyBe today, seemed to go quite well but will see. It seems a few of the applicants who were also there had similarly been rejected from BA and considering the applications are very much the same, it seems it is a way of whittling us down. I’m surprised the airlines are comfortable with the practice though as of course it minimises their applicant base and potential recruits somewhat!

Hope all goes well with BA! Keep us informed :)

Chris4 26th Jun 2018 21:44

Just my 2p on why you may have been rejected from the BA Cityflyer scheme whilst applying for Flybe:

I applied for the TCX scheme and attended the FTE Jerez assessment. I think they only took forward 32 people who had applied to the FTE assessment and thus just getting to that stage is pretty competitive. If you've been selected for the FTE assessment as part of the Flybe scheme then they won't also put you forward for the same selection process but for BACF - the assessment will be exactly the same for the two schemes apart from a bit in the interview which will be specific to the airline.

tl;dr: no point in getting people to do the same assessment twice

It definitely isn't due to them not being interested in candidates who have applied for other schemes though as FTE will keep your assessment results for 6 months and if you apply to another scheme will just use those (old) results in deciding whether to take you forward to the airline interview. I guess this may not be possible from Flybe to BACF due to the timings of selections though?

Good luck :)

Stretch19 27th Jun 2018 01:48

Hi everyone, sorry for being quiet the last few days. I too have been invited for further assessment so I am absolutely stoked. Looking forward to meeting some of you.

Thats unfortunate to hear 04J. I hope the Flybe application turns out well for you.

Ahhh I see, that makes sense. When you consider that the assessment is free as well, there really is no point spending the time and money on re-assessing people you've seen before. To make sure I'm interpreting this right, does that mean that people who've had an assesment in the last 6 months won't hear whether they have an airline interview until after next week? Thanks for the info Chris :-)

Congrats! What day is your assessment?

Stretch19 27th Jun 2018 10:29

Congrats to you as well, my assessment will be on the 3rd.

QueenBee017 27th Jun 2018 14:00

I am still waiting to hear after submitting with BACF, my answers are all greyed out which from reading the above looks like a good sign! Everything crossed for an interview, although I know how few they take forward.

04jharrison 27th Jun 2018 20:13

Thanks Chris4 and Stretch19 too! That makes sense, just a shame to not have a shot at one at the expense of another I guess, but hopeful for Flybe, the assessment went much better than I had feared with it being my first one.

Good luck to all those getting assessments! Out of curiosity are they to be held in Didsbury / Manchester?

Stretch19 2nd Jul 2018 08:46

Hey there. Does anyone know if we can use a calculator for some of the mathematics tests?

Chris4 2nd Jul 2018 11:39

Yep FTE allow you to use a calculator for all the tests. I took my standard scientific calculator to their assessment which they were fine with. If you don't have one then they can provide you with one but its always easier to use one that you're used to

How did you get on yesterday Stretch?

Stretch19 5th Jul 2018 08:36

It is definitely hard to say. I don’t think I did poorly but I also don’t think I went amazingly so I’ll just have to wait and see.

I'm sure you did great, it's always hard to tell though :-(. Did they give you any indication of how you performed on the aptitude tests on the day or anything?

Stretch19 5th Jul 2018 13:43

Not particularly. They said they compare the results to a database so we will just find out later on. Good luck with your assessment day.

Thankyou! I think it went okay. They said we'd hear in the next 2 weeks so fingers crossed we hear back soon! They said they were taking 8 through, very competitive though :-(

Stretch19 18th Jul 2018 10:14

Letting everyone know that emails have been sent. Wishing the best to everyone.

EIFlyer 18th Jul 2018 16:00

Got an email invite to the final interview there too, happy days. Does anyone know what the story is with regard to commitments / contract on a mentored programme like this is? You hardly sign one before starting as you are effectively self sponsored. Suppose what I'm asking is can you take a better offer down there if it arises without any complications (contract buy-out)?

Chris4 19th Jul 2018 09:57

Bit of a long shot I know, but does anyone have an interview that is NOT on the 8th/9th Aug? Just asking as (somewhat typically) a few days before they sent out the invite a work commitment came up which means it is difficult for me to take leave on the 8th/9th. I have emailed them asking if I can swap interview day but no reply yet, will call them soon.

But if someone here would be willing to swap interview slots I would be very appreciative!

EIFlyer 19th Jul 2018 10:09

Hi Chris, I'm on the 3rd of August. Unfortunately I can't swap for similar reasons to yourself. I'd say they'll sort you out.

Chris4 19th Jul 2018 14:09

Indeed they have :) They have been extremely helpful and accomodating, certainly makes a change compared to other flight schools

Stretch19 19th Jul 2018 21:00

That’s great then. So far everything has been pretty fantastic I think.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?!
