QATAR MPL CTC 2016

Hey guys anyone else seen the new Qatar MPL course on offer

Thinking about applying just left uni what do we need to do?

Any recommendations would be grand!

HEJT2015 25th May 2016 15:19

I have yes, but the funding looks like to be a mighty hurdle...

wonder88 25th May 2016 17:22

Damn, that's a long time :eek:. You can add to that the amount of time you have to wait before base training in Qatar. :}

Black Pudding 25th May 2016 19:49

We have a lot of CTC MPL guys and girls here in Doha who are soo glad and happy they decided to come to Qatar and not other options offered by CTC. Maybe the wait in the long run would be worth it.

EC DKN 26th May 2016 03:27

109,000 pounds...

Black Pudding 26th May 2016 09:22

As you are discussing getting on line as soon as possible and earning money, whats better, flying in the right seat of a jet sooner on peanuts and having to take other part time jobs or flying later and having a take home pay as much, if not more than many UK Captains. That's if what I am being told regarding pay at the other options is true.

I have flown with a few who have come through the Qatar CTC MPL scheme and are so glad they came here and not taken the other options on offer. They have told me some of their friends who took the other options wished they had taken this one.

Your choice. Until you have been offered anything, you have nothing. Until you have been given a choice, you have no decision to make.

Black Pudding 26th May 2016 11:33

Integrated

Take a chill pill

We are not discussing your situation. Simply the fact the scheme has reopened.

Making the right decision first time and waiting may be a better decision than making a wrong one for a sooner option. I should know as I am flying with CTC MPL guys here who have friends who took other options and wished they had taken this one.

I am not saying other options are bad. I am saying the one offered by Qatar is very good once on line.

I am not anti anything else. What I do know is that once you are here and on the line, you will realise how lucky you are to be here and not taken the other options.

And by the way, at no time did I mention any other airline name.

If I was going to recommend anyone to do a MPL scheme, I would have no hesitation in recommending this one. The reason for this is my observations of how happy the cadets are to be here when they get through training and the feedback I am getting from them about their friends who went elsewhere.

Good luck with your decision.

Black Pudding 26th May 2016 12:17

Ok, let's start again

Waiting longer for something may be better in the long run

I am flying with some here in Qatar who came through the scheme and are very happy and glad they took the decision they did.

Some of these FOs have friends who made a different choice and wished they had also chosen Qatar. Reasons being as mentioned above.

The Qatar CTC MPL scheme is very good and I would suggest waiting for a start date.

For the record, I did not say Qatar was the only one doing well for new starters. I also did not say everyone else will likely only achieve peanuts.

What I will say one last time. Sometimes it better to make the right decision with a wait for a start date than a wrong one sooner being paid peanuts.

I am here on the inside. I am regularly flying with guys who have come from CTC MPL scheme and we do chat about it. Many tell the same story.

They are very happy and have no regrets. Many know how lucky they are to have made this choice. They know this as they are still in touch with others who took a different route.

Black Pudding 26th May 2016 13:19

Do you need spoon feeding and your hand held.

EC DKN 26th May 2016 13:31

I am training modular! I will not risk my parents house for working in an airline. I prefer to have my own licence and work my ladder... It will be harder but I am sure it will me more rewarding and free of debt!

Think twice because you are selling your soul and you parents home to an airline.

Black Pudding 26th May 2016 13:45

EC DKN

I was also modular and was working full time during training. Took me 6 years to complete training. Never give up and believe in yourself.

DelayReducer

The possible delay in start date is so that once you start, there is no further delays during the training period from day 1 to line check. I am guessing until you start day 1, you are your own free agent to do as you wish. A friend of mine waited 12 months for his start date. He's now in NZ.

a320qatar 30th May 2016 10:21

does anyone planning to attend Qatar MPL interview in june 2016 please let me know where you guys planning to stay and how do you prepare for the upcoming interview :) NEED TIPS

Jamba 30th May 2016 12:43

@alloyd555

In the contract between you and Qatar Airways, are you bound to them during a certain period of time ?

SouthEast 31st May 2016 16:57

tiny bit unrelated
but is there a time period you have to wait if youre unsuccessful for one airline programme with CTC before you can apply for another one with CTC??

Black Pudding 31st May 2016 18:26

Flying Greek

If you think you may feel home sick, don't bother applying.

Many here who have joined via the scheme are happy and are in no rush to return to their home countries.

They are earning good money, paying their debts off and enjoying life.

Jamba 1st Jun 2016 13:31

I totally agree with FlyingGreek. The short/long term perception and definition vary from one person to another

As seen in Europe, you can change airlines even before the 1500h ATPL with a MPL, that's why I asked.

Black Pudding 1st Jun 2016 16:41

If you think you might be home sick, take an option to keep you in your home country and don't bother applying for this.

Kelvin Le Blond 4th Jun 2016 11:35

hey all , i just booked a date for phase 2 ..!! can anyone please help about the various tasks held on that day ?

Kushflyhigh 4th Jun 2016 17:29

Hi guys..!!

Any updates on Phase 1 selection...?

a320qatar 5th Jun 2016 08:13

Kelvin Le Blond You can go to Latest Pilot Jobs provides the latest aviation vacancies around the world.-Latest Pilot Jobs-Latest Pilot Jobs and practice ( I recommend you to buy te $15 package) Can I see your phase 1 acceptance letter because I only got accepted through a phone call and I still didn't get an invitation :/

TheTypicalBrit 5th Jun 2016 14:44

Before everyone gets really excited about this opportunity please remember that when working with Qatar, they control your passport and bank account. So when you try to leave or get fired for no reason (as many have been), you've also had your bank account frozen and lost £1000s. Plus your passport will have a ban from travelling to Doha or Qatar on it.

Kushflyhigh 6th Jun 2016 16:00

Guys any updates on Phase 1 selection...??

TheTypicalBrit 6th Jun 2016 19:34

Integrated, I'm not worried, I'm just posting additional factors that potential applicants should consider, these come from ACTUAL qatar pilots in the Middle East Forum.

TheTypicalBrit 6th Jun 2016 20:54

Thanks, are you applying?

TheTypicalBrit 6th Jun 2016 21:06

What about applying for the BA FPP?

devvo 6th Jun 2016 21:21

I can't remember who asked (South east ?? ) but yes, if you fail an interview with CTC for an airline (eg a QR MPL scheme), to reapply to the same airline you have to wait 6 months. I think you can try for another airline partnership scheme but you basically have to start your application from scratch. Don't forget about the assessment fees too! Can therefore get quite costly. I'm starting an MPL course in August for CTC and QR in NZ, so although I am not as knowledgable as some on here, I may be able to offer some advice so don't hesitate to contact me, I'll help if I can. Best of luck to anyone applying soon!

Kushflyhigh 7th Jun 2016 04:53

Can anybody do the breakthrough of the selection rounds as in what all rounds are there.
What and from where shall a candidate prepare so as to perform good. Also how long would ctc take to select candidates out of phase 1...??

a320qatar 11th Jun 2016 13:55

I'm sorry Integrated next time I won't post confidential emails :/If you are from UK could you please give me some tips regarding accommodation and Could someone help me with the final phase 'the interview with Qatar Airways' ?

studentpil0t 11th Jun 2016 23:13

I chose the modular route and currently wrapping up my IR and CPL. I'll most likely go on to do the ATPL exams but ultimately the dream job is to fly for QA. Integrated = over-rated & overpriced.

momo95 12th Jun 2016 16:07

Absolutely nothing confidential about that email, it's just a copy paste job they've sent to thousands down the years.

Edit just to add that for accommodation a320Qatar I'd get onto hotac in CTC, they will organise onsite accommodation, I slept upstairs and came down the next morning to find my assessment buddies waiting at the bottom, takes away the rush and worry of getting a taxi and being late.

Black Pudding 12th Jun 2016 16:46

a320qatar

Good luck with your assessment.

I suggest you delete out your dates of assessment as the less you do to make your identification known on here, the better for you.

devvo 12th Jun 2016 20:07

A320QATAR - I agree with everyone else, probably best to not post correspondence that is meant for you (and you only!)

However I feel I can help with the last stage, the 'Interview with Qatar Airways'. I should stress that this is not the hardest stage, not at all. My experience of it in fact was a very relaxed and friendly chat with 3 people from Qatar Airways, one of whom was a Training Captain. It does not last long, usually around 20 minutes, but can be as little as 10 and as much as 45 I have heard. Do not take the 'duration' of the interview to mean that it did or did not go well!

The aim of the interview is to see how you would cope with life in Qatar and what makes you "tick" as a person. They want to know WHY you want to be a pilot, why you want to fly for THEM and not for another airline, what are your GOALS and what do you hope to ACHIEVE (in your career and maybe in life)? Where do you SEE YOURSELF in 10 years time? So as you would for your interview with CTC, research and study. If you're trying to get onto an A320 course, research the A320; engines? Dimensions? Capacity? Routes? What in your opinion makes it a popular aircraft in the industry? Cruise speed / range etc. Do this with any aircraft you want to fly...eg I want to fly the A350 and 777x (I can't decide!) So I researched both! Inevitably they will PROBABLY ask you a question you may not know the answer to...be honest! Tell them you DO NOT KNOW...BUT hint to them that you will make an effort to learn! Add a bit of humour, be confident in yourself.

You must also research the state of Qatar. Cultures, traditions, history, demographics...anything you can. To be honest, wikipedia is a good start for this but by all means dig deeper - it will only help you! Don't be afraid to mention things you have read about, obviously keep it all positive, but even if you don't know everything about a subject, it shows that you have an interest if you mention something which is "uncommon knowledge" to any non-Qatari. For example, I researched the history and origins of Qataris and we talked about it in my interview. I was actually inadvertently racist! I didn't mean to be (I did not check the information I had read online) and I am not a racist but I did not know I had been racist. But they are not out to get you, and they just laughed at me and explained what I had just said and why it was racist. So I told them exactly where I had read that and apologised profusely. But they said they didn't mind, that it was funny and they were surprised that I even knew about their origins! The information wasn't entirely incorrect it turned out! haha

The interview is short, yes, but do your research. When you arrive, do your best to remember their names! They will probably only tell you their names a short while before the interview (as in an hour before maybe!) but of course, like any interview, remembering your interviewer's name (names in this case) goes a long way, as does a smile, a strong handshake, eye contact and a good presentation. If you promote confidence in your body language, half the battle is won! Hope this helps!!

a320qatar 13th Jun 2016 12:02

I deleted the invitation letter :) Thank you so much momo95, Black Pudding, and
devvo thank you soooooo much for saving my time and taking the trouble to type all that. I grabbed so much info after reading all your posts (Y)

Wajahet 14th Jun 2016 16:19

Hi there guys and girls. I have applied for this scheme. Just wondering, what should I look to being asked at the first stage if my application has been successful.
Thanks.

striker26 14th Jun 2016 17:06

Since an ATPL allows you to fly with any airline, whereas an MPL is specific to say QR bonded 5 years initially on A320, does anyone know if at 1500 hrs you can convert the MPL to an ATPL just by writing the exams or do you need to gain further PIC time to satisfy the ATPL requirements?

Only reason I ask is because as a FO, you will not be gaining PIC time, or can you if CPT signs off that you were PF????

Just saying, spending a lot of money and being guaranteed job is great even with a 5 year bond but anything can happen in the industry and the airline.

Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance!

wonder88 14th Jun 2016 20:02

Taken from the CAE website

The MPL qualifies the holder to fly for a particular airline on a particular aircraft type. Once the MPL holder has gained approximately 1,500 flight hours experience, they have the opportunity to convert their MPL to a full ATPL licence and they are then eligible to be considered by their employer airline for promotion to Captain.

sudden twang 14th Jun 2016 20:30

I'm a wannabe retiree just can't afford to yet. I'm looking at this thread to give advice to a wannabe. For the record I have >20k hours and > 6k as a TRI/TRE in the sim.
Just some comments, someone mentioned Qatar paying more than any UK Capt. Hmmmmn there are Capts in the UK earning £300k pa and on a final salary pension. Admittedly they are working the system.
EI and BA repay the cost of training including the TR.
I don't think BA take self sponsored integrated graduates straight from FTE I thought the agreement was with CTC and then only to top up after the FPP and DEP recruitment.
As for integrated overpriced and overrated that's easy to say AFTER you've found a job and you won't find many if any employers that'll reimburse your costs.
Re the delay well it comes down to risk v benefits but think long term. And don't forget Qatar own 20% of IAG.
Best of luck to you all.

sudden twang 14th Jun 2016 20:38

Oh and someone's self sponsoring because they didn't know about the BA FPP but too late now. Seriously?

kirungi1 15th Jun 2016 09:51

Integrated; I can understand your grievance, but the tone in that response is uncalled for (CRM). I guess, that would be his/her opinion.

Which scheme did you mean that is "only now...opened?

My response was to that statement. It was meant as a question because in my experience ( and I stated my experience to avoid the response it garnered ) a tagged scheme is a better balance of risk v benefit.
My posting was attempting to be helpful with facts I think it unlikely that BA will take you straight from Jerez it may have been done in the past but CTC ( again in my experience )is more likely. Just because you don't like my opinion doesn't make it .
Leaving aside the CRM aspect your response was impolite and unnecessary again in my honest opinion.
Ironically I did an integrated course .
Enjoy Jerez they run a good course.
