Norwegian Self Sponsored Type Rating
Norwegian seem to have started a self-sponsored (pay-to-fly) type rating scheme. You can find the application details HERE.
From what I hear, you pay your own expenses to attend the interview, sim check is on some kind of generic flight training device and, because there is no full sim assessment, you will be assessed during training instead. i.e. you could be leaving one job and then getted chopped during sim or line training as you have no contract of employment until passing final line check. During training you get €100 per day (only for days of training) and pay your own accommodation (not sure where training is based). Once finished line trng you get Junior F/O pay of €3300 basic (up to 1500hrs) and then €4000 as F/O. Sounds like a risky move to me, if you already have a permanent contract (I'm staying put!) Ohh yeah, the cost is around €23,000 € |
Sounds like a cheap p2f at least, not £30k like some members quote on this site. Perhaps an idea is to head to the likes of Simtech and do an assessment and sim training. Then you know if you are good enough beforehand?
|
The price is still ok i think, but if you have no job guarantee.......risky indeed. And if so, does one get a employee contract or is it on self employment basis?
|
Are you TR as it is on something?
|
I recently heard about this too although did not have the details provided in this thread.
Has anyone applied? |
I don't see the big difference between this contract and the one offered by the other big Low Cost Carrier. In fact you do not even get payed during your training with the other carrier or accommodation etc.
Just to be clear I am not defending either of these companies or their training policies towards low hour pilots, just fail to see the big difference!! |
Well i confess, i applied. But i also admit i dont know the details. But what to do if facing unemployement and nobody else giving a chance.
It is all very difficult!!! |
At least you have a valid TR to present to other airlines. And at cheap cost by the sounds of it
|
It's sad they ask for ELP level 5.
|
They can ask whatever they want! A ELP level 5 is not that high, especially in some EASA countries where so many pilots hold a level 5 which indeed they aren't!
|
Preferably have completed an integrated training course with Jet Orientation Course and Multi Crew Co-ordination (MCC) Course.
Modulars being ignored again? :D :ugh: |
Has anyone, who applied, received any info about this program? I'm not sure about the specs and any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds bit like RYR but still cheaper and better for the 100€/day, which are better than nothing. @TheScarletPimpernel Can you tell us where you get those number and details from ? Even PM if you prefer, Thanks |
Hey, guys, I've applied too.
Wondering how the confirmation email looks like. What information does it contain? Can you provide ? Thank you ! |
You should receive it immediately after you submit your application and tells you that the application is well received. They will contact suitable candidates to schedule an interview and candidates who are not considered suitable will receive written notification by letter or e-mail.
|
Hi Eavr !
Thank you. That is also the one which I already received. Hopefully, we will get a positive answer soon. Wish Good Luck to all of us who are trying to get into this company. |
Has anyone heard anything of this since they applied? Other than the initial confirmation email?
|
So far, nothing.
|
The same
Negative, no new email.
|
They are hiring from FTE Jerez! Sorry guys nothing for modulars!
FTEJerez to supply graduate pilots to Norwegian ? FTEJerez | News |
As they are from OAA too.
|
Why am I even surprised / disappointed? :ugh:
|
And AFTA Cork also
|
All you modular dreamers out there, time to wake up and smell the roses..
No one is going to let you walk out of flight school with 200 hours and go straight to a big shiny jet, you did not go through integrated. They have the strangle hold on the market and its not a new thing. So for modular it is going to take lot more time for the first jet job, but you all chose that path, don't go complaining about it now because you didn't make the right decision. You want a fly a big shiny jet quick, get mummy and daddy give you lots of money to go integrated. Nothing is for free in aviation, you didn't pay 50K to win the lottery, when other guys paid 120K.... simple as that folks. |
You could clearly write what some of you guys know about pilot training on the back of a postage stamp.
Firstly, at no point in the FTE arcticle about Norwegian does it state that Norwegian will be exclusively selecting integrated students/graduates for employment. I suggest you polish up on your comprehension skills, you might need them if you want to be a pilot. Secondly, FTE recommend their modular students to the airlines if they are good enough. If you read the FTE website there is even a testimony from a FTE modular student. Anyhow, regardless of what FTE say I know plenty of modular students who are happily employed in the airlines, flying 'shiny' jets as their first job. There is no right or wrong way to train. To all the keyboard warriors, if you are an aspiring pilot, you are going to struggle with the CRM aspect of airline flying. Sorry to go off topic. |
Just to be clear , AFTA are putting forward recommended graduates , there is no exclusive deal . And I cant see a claim by anyone on this thread suggesting an "exclusive" deal for FTE either or any other school for that matter rather the names of schools who are supplying cadets at the moment. Not getting into modular v integrated debate not even relevant here!!!!!
|
Hahaha calm down guys you are a bit nervous! I am modular too and a fact is a fact! They clearly specify that they prefer integrated pilot, but anyway if you chose modular you probably did knowing that u will work flying something else apart from shinny jets! ;)
By the way, a lot of modulars (after FR) fly for Norwegian! :) |
They also asked CAE for some candidates.
|
are you integrated from FTE bwsboy6? good luck
|
AFTA Cork / NAS Assessment
Has anyone been successful with the latest recruitment with AFTA in Cork?
I hear that the sim assessment and interview is pretty highly priced at €600!! := What are other places (FTE, CAE etc) charging for the privilege? I have heard from an inside source within NAS that the deal for any new FO is not the pink and fluffy version that was sold to them in the first place. This actually would make RYR look like the best deal going forward the better option to pursue. |
Also, does anyone know if the graduates that have been put forward are a select group or any that need jobs?
Speaking to FTE at Pilot Careers Live they said they were asked to supply 20 cadets for an interview with NAS but they only had 15 cadets left. They apparently can't produce the cadets quickly enough. |
Time to stock up on vaseline and hope they might consider lil' modular me
Annoying thing is they probably won't ever reject my application; Never even heard back after I applied last year for their SSTR scheme |
With the orange brigade in town did they all want the job?
|
SierraEchoCharlie your claim may, in fact, be true !
|
I dont know for what kind of people Norwegian is looking but what I do know is that now and then I see people getting hired who have almost no hours at all ie. 200hrs total time.
Myself, who has also applied for the non type rated scheme have around 1200tt of which 1000 are on heavy turbo prop and I dont hear anything at all from them haha Ps. im talking about the non type rated fo scheme |
Similar here, but less experienced. 400tt with 200 Heavy Turbo Prop.
No reply also, and not anticipating one either but I will update here if I hear anything. |
I have the interview one of the next days!
Does one of you have any tips, questions, advices? Would be greatly appreciated! :) |
Are you integrated or modular ?
How many hours ? |
For pro integrated,
Modular from Fte, actually doing my TR with norwegian... 2 others modular in the TR group. No integrated from ctc/cae/fte! |
The other two also from FTE?
