Applying to easyJet cadetship

Hi guys,

I have just seen a thread below this, but since this could be such a huge decision for me i decided to create my own thread to ask my own questions in this thread without hijacking someone elses.

Details: easyJet Cadet Pilot Programme | Cadet Pilot Training | Become a easyJet pilot with CTC Wings | CTC Wings

This opportunity has just appeared the same time as i have realised it might be the original passion i should have done all along, and as a result my knowledge might not be the best.

I was wondering if someone with a more knowledgeable eye could look over and spot any glaringing worries? The way i read it is £69k for training which is repaid on starting your career with easyJet. (i.e sounds good? not many airlines do it).

There aren't many figures given really, does anyone know the starting salaries for new pilots? I've seen £40k or so mentioned but have no idea about the accuracy of that. And how about pay progression in general, does it hit high 5 figs?

Does anyone know the career prospects starting with easyJet (i.e good rep to move around?), and how they allocate bases/roster on & off?

Apologies for all the questions, as i stated, if this comes through it could be a huge, huge decision (seeing as ive just started my 'planned' career).

Many thanks.

Most of those questions aren't answered on the CTC site.

One thing that strikes me is that it doesn't sound like the bond starts being repaid until you're employed by Easyjet themselves, rather than through Flexicrew. They also don't sound, on the face of it, to be under any obligation to employ you after your flexi period, only that you would be "eligible" for full time employment. Once it starts being repaid, how long does it take?

I'm not clear as to how the "investment" is on the part of APL or Easyjet. It looks more like you pay for everything, then you might get it back if you get a full time contract after a period of at least a couple of years of flexicrew. The deal seems exactly the same as the Wings course, except with an extra £11,940 on top of the usual costs and a guarantee of two years flexicrew; not a full time contract or any guarantee of bond repayment.

The other difference from the Wings programme is that you end up with an Easyjet MPL rather than a CPL/IR/fATPL. At what point do you become eligible to fly for anyone else if EJ don't offer you a f/t contract after your flexi period?

cowhorse 15th Apr 2013 11:20

Can you sign up for this if you already have fATPL?

Lakhan 15th Apr 2013 12:18

" At what point do you become eligible to fly for anyone else if EJ don't offer you a f/t contract after your flexi period?"

MPL is airline specific so you end up flying for that airline. If they let you go for some odd reason then you're pretty . You won't have the conventional PPL/CPL/IR/

From what i've read, and please someone correct me if i'm wrong, is that after 1250 hours or so you get an unrestricted MPL, which means you can apply to other airlines. Possibly...

Edit: Ok, so i've just read that you get an "unrestricted MPL" after final line check. Hmm..

andre1990 19th Apr 2013 09:22

I've just been told i've made it through to the next stage.

A one day event with assessments in the morning and afternoon; Phase 2 & Phase 3.

£210 selection fee for the day (includes lunch i guess!).

For candidates to start between July - Sept.

This is a huge decision for me, any honest opinions?

rogerg 19th Apr 2013 11:23

From what i've read, and please someone correct me if i'm wrong, is that after 1250 hours or so you get an unrestricted MPL,
I understand that after about 1500 hours you get a ATPL

Irrespective of how you feel about the scheme I'd go - it's great practice for other roles and you aren't going to find any new information about the scheme sat behind a keyboard.

nickyboy007 19th Apr 2013 15:25

andre1990 what dates have they offered you for assessment ?

Michael Scott 19th Apr 2013 16:31

Of note, the following 'TBC' questions have disappeared from the information page - arguably the most important points!

What costs are covered by the security bond?
When do I start earning an income and how much will that be?
What additional costs will I have to cover?

matt1991 21st Apr 2013 00:38

I've applied for this as well...got my assessment day on Friday 26th April - safe to say I'm pretty nervous!

matt1991 22nd Apr 2013 00:50

I applied last Thursday (18th April) and got a response asking me to book onto stage 2&3 - the aptitude tests and interview - the following day (Friday 19th April). I don't understand why they haven't replied to you, I presumed pretty much everyone got offered a chance to come and do the tests, I could be wrong though.

WhosKiddingWho 22nd Apr 2013 16:30

Can anyone explain the word "Tagged" please?

Why not use the word "Employment" or " Contract" or "Job" when offering "Tagged" Training opportunities? ( Which you fully self fund!)

Would the sceptical among us be right to assume parents would not pay for these schemes unless there was a job at the end, hence the term "Tagged" to cover, well, not a lot really?

As all FTO's are businesses which require turnover/sales irrespective of actual job availability, would it be in their interests to admit there are already too many people on these courses?

andre1990 22nd Apr 2013 17:13

@15206 - The email did say there was one planned for mid-May, but from my own experience (albeit outside of aviation), if you have the chance for the first selection date, then take it.

Paxi_R6 25th Apr 2013 00:17

"Thank you for your interest in our programme.

You may have already started an application for this airline utilising this scheme. Please enter your Application number & password to continue with your existing application. If you cannot remember your Application number or password, use the link below to have a reminder email sent to you. If you believe that a mistake has been made and you are sure that you have not previously completed an application form for this airline, please contact the support team at [email protected]."
I get this message when I try make an app ? I haven't made one or have , just haven't gotten a password or application number :ugh: CTC won't email me back either ? What do I do ...

G-F0RC3 25th Apr 2013 15:33

Why are they both way too soon KostasSpil?

AnotherWannabe 25th Apr 2013 15:57

only available dates are 29.April and 03.May, obviously they are both way too soon.
The applications close on 30th April, so I would think they will announce more assessment dates. I mean, for someone who applies on the 29th, will 4 days of preparation be enough ?

andre1990 25th Apr 2013 16:19

I've only had a week or so, just get stuck in and let your passion shine!

andre1990 25th Apr 2013 22:28

Thanks mate, sorry to anyone i've not responded back to...working full time and preparing for this has been more than demanding the past few days. I'll have time come the weekend.

@15206, try the easyJet specific preparation on latestpilotjobs (make sure you subscribe for the right one), has proved useful for myself.

AnotherWannabe 25th Apr 2013 23:17

This may be a stupid question but are you supposed to hold a Class 1 Medical before you apply or can you get that after the assessment ?

I mean, if there are a 1000 applicants, straight away they might be able to weed out say a 100 because their medicals are denied before the application/assessment. This is how I think it's done.
Am I right?

(Entry requirements state "Be able to obtain an EASA Class 1 medical without restrictions", you can't really know for sure until you actually get it done, so that's why I'm confused...)

yanny 26th Apr 2013 06:47

No need to get your medical before the assessment. They only requirement is that you have it completed before training commences, it is completely up to you if you decide to get it done now.

G-F0RC3 26th Apr 2013 08:30

A C1 medical will set you back around £350. Add onto that any travel expenses involved and it's suddenly quite a lot of money to spend on something that you will only need if you're lucky and get on the course. Above is correct, you don't need one when you apply, but you should read the CAA website on the level of health required and make a sensible decision on whether it's likely you'd be able to acquire a C1 or not. I'd imagine most people who can't get one fall down on the eyesight part. If you are fairly young with no serious health problems and have half-decent eyesight then you're probably going to be completely fine in this regard.

rsbean 28th Apr 2013 21:37

I applied on the 25th, got an email from them than evening saying I've got 2 applications current. Had a response the next morning (friday) from them saying the original application was cancelled, my easyJet one still stands and shows it's submitted when I log in but I've had nothing back regarding that. Hopefully I'll hear back something in the next few days!

AnotherWannabe 28th Apr 2013 22:56

Ok, thanks for clearing that up!

andre1990 29th Apr 2013 09:23

Received a couple of PM's regarding the day, so just to add my 2 cents. Everything i read on here and the net in general about the day was spot on.

Meet at Dibden in the morning, there were 12 of us on my day. Split into 2 groups.

My group completed maths & pilapt first, then went on to complete a couple of group exercises.

Had lunch, after which the group was whittled down (those who unfortunately hadn't made it through the morning), leaving the rest to have 35-45 min 1-on-1 interviews with one of the ladies we had come into contact with during the day.

General advice would be to relax and stay sharp the whole day, they don't try to catch you out. Maths is accomplishable, just brush up on the basics and get used to working under time pressure.

Still have my fingers crossed regarding progressing to the next stage, and good luck to all applying too!

AnotherWannabe 29th Apr 2013 18:00

Thanks for the info andre and good luck !

Carter1 29th Apr 2013 23:32

Andre - thanks for the info - how many from the 12 on the day went through and how many went home?

pilot-wings 30th Apr 2013 00:57

Hello there buddy. First and foremost really do appreciate your feedback regarding the day. If you don't mind could you tell me a few other things just to put myself further at ease...What types of questions were there in the maths tests and other tests that you took. Also how many questions and how long did you have to do them. What was asked in the interviews, group activities and if you can shed some light on pilapt. Think I am just a little nervous to be fair but make the most of it I guess. If there is any other tips you can maybe give will be a great help.

In your opinion how many applicants got through to the selection day as you said there were 12 of you guys and tbf there are not many assessment days.

Thank you very much :ok:

SWATSON12 30th Apr 2013 10:27

Just out of interest what days are people having the assessment day on? Is it only Fridays and Mondays?

@Carter1: 4 of us made it through to the afternoon stage.

andre1990 30th Apr 2013 12:44

@15206: How many started the day?

We were briefly discussing this on our assessment day, and as it seems they were quite keen to emphasize starting July/Aug if we were lucky enough to make it that far, it is possible that the first few assessment centres will, say, recruit 18 or so of the 36, and then later assessment centres would do the same for the remaining half starting Sept.

Who knows!

andre1990 8th May 2013 12:55

I was told today i'd been lucky enough to make it through to the next stage at easyJet out in Luton. I know others from my assessment day received the same good news too, so good luck to anyone else waiting.

On the next stage, i've not seen any posts about what to expect at this stage (Phase 4)? I was expecting a simulator as part of the assessment day but it has been mentioned that it will be mainly a group exercise and interview.

Any advice appreciated.

CAVOK2012 8th May 2013 14:50

I applied on Saturday and got a rejection from CTC on Monday.

That was sort of surprising as I meet all the minimum requirements, have a degree, no gaps in employment and a PPL. :ouch:

I thought I'd at least get through to the first (non-application) stage. It's worth noting that I got to stage 3 for the BA FPP with OAA. :hmm:

naturals 8th May 2013 15:09

Someone I know who was there also stated the low progression rate from Stage 1 to Stage 2 (something around 1/7th got invited to the assessment day) so don't beat yourself up too much. I suspect unlike the BA scheme time is not on the side of the FTO's this time round, therefore they've had to make a quick decision and not progress with some applications which might have got further with other airlines.

AnotherWannabe 8th May 2013 16:02

CAVOK2012,

and a PPL.
Do you have more than 85 hours flying experience ?

CAVOK2012 8th May 2013 20:04

15206 & AnotherWannabe.....the mystery has been solved. It appears I was too stupid to click the continue button to reveal the next section of questions, i.e. the long ones :{ I had wondered why the application seemed so short :ugh:

Totally my own fault but relieves my mind a little. I do think there should have been some validation on the form to alert me to the unanswered fields but oh well, maybe next time.

Best of luck to you :ok:

Hamsterminator 13th May 2013 13:23

CAVOK2012 that's frustrating to hear! The application website is far from polished that's for sure.

I rushed through mine (at the time I was applying after the closing date... only to find that closing date extended after I finished!) so god knows how that will pan out! I too made it to stage 3 BA, and mentioned that in the application. I'm not sure if this is wise or not. Easyjet may not take to fondly to me harking on about BA in their application! On the other hand the timing of this opening and the fact that it is being handled by CTC might mean that theyre fully expecting some BA application rejects such as myself.

I'm still not 100% sure about this offer though. A friend of mine who flew for ezy seems to be far from convinced that it is a good offer. What are other people's thoughts?

AnotherWannabe 13th May 2013 16:15

What are other people's thoughts?
Read through this:
http://www.pprune.org/interviews-job...rough-ctc.html

Hamsterminator 13th May 2013 16:24

Just got told I didn't meet the selection criteria... which baffles me slightly. Is that just CTC's way of saying my answers weren't good enough?

I would expect them just to say "you were unsuccessful" if that were the case...

contacttower118.2 13th May 2013 16:53

I got the same "did not meet the selection criteria" response. Not sure whether that is just their way of saying "not good enough" or whether something in my application was actually amiss?

AnotherWannabe 13th May 2013 17:06

Hamsterminator and contacttower118.2,
Sorry to hear that. You didn't accidentally skip the essay questions did you ?

contacttower118.2 13th May 2013 17:44

Definitely not, I went over it several times and was reasonably happy with my responses.

I would just be curious to know if anyone else who was unsuccessful got a different rejection message.
