Company insurance
Hey guys,
Just found a job but the company insurance demands 500h which I do not have. So, is this a cul-de-sac or is there any chance to solve this problem? Thanks a lot. |
at the risk of sounding stupid...fly some more hours! :P

I expected that reply :)

Job-Seeker,
Unfortunately, most airlines/aerial companies don't hire low timers because of insurances. I know some jobs here in Portugal I could get (and any low houred would be hired) but they say they can not hire just because of insurance - f it wasn't that, I was now employed :/ |
Thanks plikee,
I thought they are kidding me as I heard it but it seems to be "normal". Next obstacle to overcome :) |
Have you actually been offered a job on the condition that you get to 500hrs or have you seen a job that you’d like to apply to but they require 500hrs min?
How many hours do you have at the moment, would it take long/ cost much to get up to 500hrs? Unfortunately there’s nothing you can do about insurance imposed minimum hours, because there is such a huge supply of pilots at the moment the operators can negotiate lower insurance premiums and accept the higher insurance imposed minimums. If there was an excessive demand for pilots the operators would have to pay higher insurance premiums to be able to accept the lower hour candidates. |
@ magicmick - I agree woth you 1000000000%

At the moment I have 220h TT and this would have been my first job... They don't require 500h to apply and I would have flown there for some years..

Is this a single pilot operation job? If it is I have been there too.
Read below for further details. JAR-OPS 1.960 Commanders holding a Commercial Pilot Licence (a) An operator shall ensure that: (1) A Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) holder does not operate as a commander of an aeroplane certificated in the Aeroplane Flight Manual for single pilot operations unless: (i) When conducting passenger carrying operations under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) outside a radius of 50 nm from an aerodrome of departure, the pilot has a minimum of 500 hours total flight time on aeroplanes or holds a valid Instrument Rating; or (ii) When operating on a multiengine type under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), the pilot has a minimum of 700 hours total flight time on aeroplanes which includes 400 hours as pilot-in-command (in accordance with [the requirements governing Flight Crew Licenses]) of which 100 hours have been under IFR including 40 hours multi-engine operation. The 400 hours as pilot-in-command may be substituted by hours operating as co-pilot on the basis of two hours co-pilot is equivalent to one hour as pilot-in-command provided those hours were gained within an established multipilot crew system prescribed in the Operations Manual; (2) In addition to sub-paragraph (a)(1)(ii) above, when operating under IFR as a single pilot, the requirements prescribed in Appendix 2 to JAR-OPS 1.940 are satisfied; |
No, this is multi pilot operation. It's not about the regulations, magicmick described it well.
