BA CityFlyer Recruitment (Merged)

We are currently recruiting for a hold pool of Trainee Entry Pilots.

The Trainee Entry Pilots task is to operate the aircraft in a safe and economical manner and support the Captain. In the event of the incapacitation of the Captain, the First Officer will assume command. The First Officer will be expected to operate in an efficient operation working within the framework of the aviation regulations and the BA CityFlyer Operations Manual. Effective risk management techniques should be applied to ensure both commercial and customer service needs are met, all within the context of a safe operation.

This might be a good opportunity for the fresh one looking for their first job and for the instructors who wants to jump into airlibes, I hope they dont ask to pay for anything. Good luck guys

chromeo 4th Oct 2011 15:21

I think most of these positions have already been filled, a lot of them came from BA contacting the flying schools a couple of months ago and taking recommendations, then they all went for selection days. There are a few due to start type-ratings this month.

felixflyer 7th Oct 2011 07:58

Anyone know which flying schools they chose to contact?

Anunaki 7th Oct 2011 08:03

Oxford,FTE and CTC I heard, friend of mine got a call for an interview next month.I want to apply but will qualify end of next month only,if they are still recruiting I'll put it through, but to be very honest,I doubt that anyone who isn't from those schools with a high ATPL average/first passes(my mate averaged 97%),will stand a chance...:(

turbine100 8th Oct 2011 14:37

I have an application placed with them for FO positions from a year ago, never heard anything. Bit disappointing if they went straight to the schools.

downwind24 8th Oct 2011 17:44

I especially like the part - 'Did you complete a fully integrated flying course - NOT A MODULAR COURSE' then YES or NO

Im thinking they may see my 'Poor Man's' JAA CPL.ME/IR as not worthwhile even entertaining my application.

Could be three hours of my life I may never get back!!

downwind24 8th Oct 2011 18:41

Guys , under the references part (education/employment) I only have the option to fill in some very basic boxes name address etc of employer but under the summary page it says duties/pay etc and shows them as being blank.

Also I don't have an option to list my qualifications or experience.

I have opened it in Chrome and Explorer but it is still the same. Any ideas??

no sponsor 8th Oct 2011 18:48

I think it will be three hours you'll never get back. I applied last year at the same time BA's application opened. I got a swift no thanks from CitiFlyer, but went on to be accepted into BA, who I now fly for.

I subsequently heard they went for Integrated people and a few DECs. It would be a lot easier if they just saved you the hassle and told you to eff off when you got to that question. ;)

downwind24 8th Oct 2011 18:54

You have to be in it to win it etc etc

I think you are right but I will do it anyway , I mean its not like I can afford a social life anyway now I have a blue book :E

turbine100 8th Oct 2011 19:39

if they choose integrated only over modular, isn't that a bit dodgy with the old employment / recruitment laws?

Anunaki 8th Oct 2011 20:31

I wish you were right mate, but BA did it for years, only accepted integrated students and it seems that discrimination was never an issue...maybe someone with more experience could en-light us?The talk of Integrated product being better is utter rubbish Imo,I think the training is what YOU make of it,if you take it seriously or not,and like you said,it sounds a little discriminatory to me...

kingofkabul 9th Oct 2011 11:02

Yes it is discrimintion, but there is nothing illegal about it. Don't confuse "equal opportunities" and discrimination. A few friends of mine are off to BACF, studied at FTE, I think they have an agreement at that school.

captain.weird 9th Oct 2011 12:19

Is this programme for ppl with fATPL or not?

Pace152 9th Oct 2011 14:16

You never know, may'be they'll do abit of positive discrimination and take on one of us poor modular guys :}

dingbat2407 13th Oct 2011 07:34

Does anybody know what they are actually looking for with these jobs? A lot of people out there, me included, just need an opportunity to even put ourselves in front of the assessment panel to show them what we can do. It would be a real shame if they only took newbies on this scheme as there are still hundreds out there either unemployed or building hours as an instructor etc. I have about 600 hours, mostly twin. Any hope of getting a reply?

RJ100 20th Oct 2011 11:26

Well if the rumoured numbers of those leaving in the next 5-6 months are close to being true BACF will need to hire experienced FO's as well as those straight out of FTO's.
Failure to do so will result in the same situation we were in a few years ago... Not enough experience for command upgrades.
Several EDI based Captains are also close to confirming their departure....
Last count 5 Captains (2 Confirmed) 12 FO's (3 confirmed with notice handed in) others with course dates later in 2012, totals from both bases.

Burger81 21st Oct 2011 11:37

Contact?

Have any low houred guys been contacted yet for interviews etc for the Trainee Positions? As they positions are essentially for the hold pool, I assume they will take their time going through CV's etc?

Cheers

steggers 21st Oct 2011 14:41

I'm a low-houred guy and applied about a month ago. I've got 220 hours and haven't heard anything as yet. Anyone shed some light on when we may hear anything?

Sharklet 21st Oct 2011 15:40

Perhaps when the application closes on 31st of October?

G-GOLF 21st Oct 2011 17:03

Low hours here too, applied 2 months ago. Still nothing, just got to sit tight and see what happens.

G`luck to all applying, an interview sure would be nice!

downwind24 21st Oct 2011 21:55

320 hours , 37 , non TR . Still nothing . If I hear it's a bonus , if not Hey Ho :}

YYZ_Instructor 22nd Oct 2011 08:25

Just to let you know there are quite a few people in the holding pool. From the time I went for interview I know at least 4 people in the hold pool for F/O positions, none of them have been called or updated about where they stand in terms of recruitment. I've been in the pool a longtime, but there seems to be no news for recruitment at the moment.

What bothered me about the whole process was that they told me it was for a position and not the holding pool, if I had known this in advance i wouldn't have gone through the trouble....

If what RJ100 says becomes reality I think they will take the people from the pool first (depending on how many are still left), expect a long wait in the pool. My group have been in since April. Time from applying to entering the pool was 6months.

Good luck to all that applied!

KLMF100poshboy 31st Oct 2011 14:55

Who's heard back from BACF

I have not heard a word since I applied in April this year, Who knows what they are after?!
I am a 3650+ pilot with tp and jet time but they want teeth cutters me thinks!

Shuttle 3 Whiskey 1st Nov 2011 13:28

According to their website, it looks like the recruitment has now ended. So I guess the wait continues!

timzsta 3rd Nov 2011 12:27

I have spent countless hours filling in these things over the last few years. Never got anywhere. Been Instructing in my spare time over that period, now got about 1200 hours.

Well had enough now thank you very much. I have been offered a drivers assessment by my local Train Operating Company early next year. Have bought the interview prep books, on the face of it doesn't look to difficult for somebody who has done the ATPL exams.

Will give it my best shot, starting salary £28,000, for a 36 hour, 4 day week. Pension plus free staff travel on the railway. Begin as a depot driver, then once you become a mainline driver (within 2 years) its £40,000 for the same hours.

And guess what? They pay for your training, your don't get charged for the interview, they pay for your uniform, ID, everything!

And with 3 days off a week still plenty of time to enjoy a bit of Instructing without the worries of having to make ends meet.

Nothing guaranteed, but I am going to give it my best shot.

captain almighty 10th Nov 2011 14:02

Hi there,

Is there anybody of you who's been called for an interview so far ?

thx

dingbat2407 14th Nov 2011 08:54

interview?

Any news out there? Anybody been called yet?

G-GOLF 14th Nov 2011 15:01

Not heard a thing.

From what YYZ_Instructor has said, we may well be in for a long wait!

punk666 27th Nov 2011 12:15

BA City Flyer

Hi guys,
Has anybody got any recent information for the interview process?
So far I know its similar to BA mainline (hr interview, compass test, etc)
but im looking for the HR style questions. Ive read that the questions can be found on the BA thread but that is now currently at 151 pages and quite frankly is way of topic and nothing to do with Cityflyer.

Any help is much appreciated.

Punk

Pace152 27th Nov 2011 12:33

punk666 27th Nov 2011 12:46

Good luck on interview !

punk666 27th Nov 2011 18:21

20pilot 28th Nov 2011 17:44

Hi Punk,

I take it you have got an email from BACF? When did you get a response?

I have applied too, but nothing yet!

punk666 28th Nov 2011 18:34

No email just a phone call.

chulmleigh 6th Dec 2011 07:46

Anybody else going for interview / assessment day this week? ( Thursday )

VJW 6th Dec 2011 12:31

Here's my experience.

Last year I went for their interview. I'd just failed BA mainland, and wanted some practice. Its was very similar to BA mainland.

They called me and ask if I'd like to attend. At the time I had around 1500 hrs 737NG time.

Think there were around 8 guys on my day, and believe there were 4 days of recruiting. The rumour was 8 positions where being sought after, 2 DEC and the rest FO's. I know for a fact that at least 4 of the 6 FO positions filled where done so with guys from FTE, could have been all 6, but I know personally of 4. The rest I can't comment. Good on them for recruiting cadets, and not asking them to pay for a rating I say, but the salary kind of reflects that, and not many people flying even for the company I do, would leave for that salary.

Good luck

punk666 13th Dec 2011 20:01

Got mine today.
