Navigation aid to cross NATS
Hey guys can anybody help me with this question please !!
what navigation aid is necessary for aircraft to be able to fly NATs (north atlantic) |
A Loran C should be enough :p
Just a bit of humour |
Have a look at the JAR OPS 1.865/870 and the ICAO Doc 7030. You might find what you need in there! G...gle should be your friend in this case.

... they ask THAT in a Ryanair interview?
(answer is, a set of IRS's with at least RNP-10 capability, I think. But I'm not sure). |
Absolutely no initiative, big gaps in knowledge and rhyming off questions like a primary school pupil after lunch time.. Perfect candidate I'd have thought Luke.
|
IRS IS NOT a navigation AID but is an aircraft's equipment. A GPS would be a navigation AID to cross the Atlantique....
|
A bubble sextant attached to a licenced navigator. Then it's his worry. :p
|
Two, independent GNSS (GPS), RNP 10 or better, receivers in addition to all the ground based nav instruments usually required. I'm pretty sure, anyway.
|
A navigator and a compass used to be more than adequate
|
Navigation
Technically the answer is none. As it is MNPS airspace.
The question should be what Navigation systems does an aircraft require. 2 Independent LRNS (Long Range Navigation Systems) |
