Ah yes, I do agree it is great that a scheme is being offered like this and it looks like the industry is picking up slightly (I've noticed with other major airlines that they are now saying on their recruitment pages that they expect aircraft in 2009 and will look into further recruitment then) soo more aircraft, more pilots :)

This is the first scheme I have seen with Flybe. Unlike the other schemes offered by airlines in conjunction with FTOs I have never seen the 60hrs or less requirement.

For anyone else who saw earlier schemes with Flybe, is this normal of them, or does this requirement differ with different FTOs? such as Jerez with the MAPS?

Seems a bit harsh that they're prerequisites for such a programme but I guess in this environment they can afford to be picky.

I guess I will have to trundle on with the modular route and be happy to live off beans on toast for another 3 years. Well at least you can add Basil and curry powder to make the beans a bit more interesting every now and again. :E

Wind the neck in a bit AC. The funds FlyBe put in at Cabair and OAA are an interest free loan, taken back from salary over five years. That's almost £400 per month on top of a £600 per month loan payment for 11 years.

All it really means is those who have less of their own cash to kick in should apply at Cabair or OAA and those who need to borrow less can apply to any of the FTO's FlyBe partners with. Those who borrow less are better off, but all of them are paying for their training, with somewhat minor differences in costs at the various FTO's.

Anyone that has been reading Pprune for any length of time knows that FlyBe does cadet schemes at numerous FTO's and anyone who has bothered reading FlyBe's website (as all prospective applicants should be doing) will know it as well. Those who haven't received even a hint of sponsorship or conditional job offers probably have little sympathy for those who get on the FlyBe FTE scheme without doing due diligence and would whine now. I think there's even less sympathy for someone who didn't get picked by FlyBe who would then cry foul.

I think it speaks volumes about the character of FlyBe's management that they have chosen to show a vote of confidence in numerous FTOs. It also results in them getting diversity on their flight decks instead of a one FTO bias.

matt, my post certainly wasn't aimed at you......or many others on this thread. I agree with most of your points. However, I had to laugh when I read.....

The prospect of an almost guarenteed job BEFORE shelving out 60k/80k (whatever it is these days) is, in my opinion, an outstanding opportunity for anyone lucky enough to get picked!

Regarding the disparity; integrated or modular, 200hrs, or loads of years instructing, we all start with different levels of debt doing exactly the same job. I personally don't see this as unfair. Unfortunate.......maybe?

I'm not here to sing the praises of Flybe but they should be congratulated for supporting ab-initio training (no-one else seems too these days). They're a good company to work for and progression is quick. If it's not for you, many have soon jumped to BA or elsewhere, and the airline sponsorship on their CV did a lot for their application!

i've just sent my app to cabair for sponsorship, the pay's not great (especially by time you take all training/living costs into account) but i've heard they're one of the best companies to work for in all other aspects.
Plus starting out on TP sounds like great fun and doesn't appear to hamper future career prospects if you're after moving to big jets!

No, i think that's it, great company but low income, i've heard (probably read on pprune) cadets often buy their way out in the last year or so and move, apparently quite a few move directly to BA, so atleast no worries there?

Wow, when I went through the sponsorship application 06/07 they did the final interviews with 8 and there were 4 places!!!!

12 is quite good. mind you i cant imagine how many 100's of applications they'll get. suppose one's gotta at least try, hey:\

For the successful candidates on this scheme you will have gotten to the national average salary on your first paid employment in an industry! I.E. There are whole families living on what you are complaining about they are even paying for the type rating. You should be eternally grateful that they even bother.

Many instructors out there have paid £50-90k for their licenses and earn less than £10k pa in numerous cases.

Personally I think if Flybe want to invest into the industry then should invest in recruiting ALL pilots. Those struggling instructors and small firm pilots who are trying to work their way up are more deserving than those who have less than 60hrs but hey it's not like Flybe don't know they are a feeder so maybe this is a reaction to that.

Got a letter the other day saying i've been accepted for stage 2, going to Cranfield on 3rd december for ability tests. Anyone else going on this date?
