flybe personnel are for some reason quite proficient in messing up a lot of things and are so well organized that it has happened several times in the past that they send out letters to people saying that they were unfortunately unsuccesfull in their application while these people were already working 6 months or 1 year for the company. Says it all I guess. Unless you are cabair it is the luck of the draw if you get hired or not. As some say that being persistant helps is nonsense in this case. It is all about pure luck here.

Don't think turning up with your cv is the answer. Those responsible for recruiting are busy enough and I would suggest that they are more than busy enough without dealing with cold-callers. You won't help yourself.

Heard through the Grape vine (quite a tough one though) that not too long ago they were overwhelmed with CV's and BINNED them all.
Very shortsighted if you ask me, as they should have formed a holding pool like BA, Virgin, Brits, A2000 etc did.
They are now in the deep and sticky.

Anyone who sent in CV's within the last few months and not heard anything, I would strongly suggest you try again and again and again.

They already have about 60 or so guys in their holding pool after the recent interviews, but certainly worth a punt. After all, I doubt anyone in the pool has given up searching elsewhere, and they are still losing people to boot. Nice healthy little recruitment opportunity.

In defence of Don, (and in my limited experience) he's one of only a handful of bloke's who actually bothers to call you back when you leave him a voicemail message, an all round nice chap who doesn't deserve the bad press. (no i don't work for flybe)

I heard just yesterday that they were having trouble crewing the next couple of months - so maybe now is the time to make the call

I've just had the offer of a job, I start in a week's time. So if I can, then so can you.

I read that you have been offered a job with flybe.

I have passed the interview recently and am waiting for a call for a sim grading appointment.

have you done a simulator grading with them prior to your job offer? If so, can I ask you when you did it?

The reason I ask you this is that I have been waiting for a while now and heard nothing. So I was wondering whether they are sim checking people as we speak or not.

Definitely sim checking people at present, but it is going to be a long, slow process. The sim is pretty busy as I understand it, and as I'm sure you will appreciate, there are more interested parties than the flybe wannabees. There have been type rating courses running for flybe's own 146 crew conversions, and I know that Flightline too will shortly be after the sim (if they haven't got it already) for sim checks and type rating courses.

There is also little point in sim checking absolutely everybody who passed the interviews right now, as flybe simply don't have the capacity to get you through their own training programmes, regardless of whether they actually have a vacancy to put you in. It is much more likely that you will be left in the holding pool (even though nobody has probably officially told you that you are in the holding pool), until such time that they have both sim slots and training capacity, and only then when it is most relevant, will your current ability be assessed.

Painful I know, but patience is a virtue. After well over 2 years, I can easily wait several months. I'm sure you can too.

by the way, bit off topic but well worth asking: My IR recurrency check is coming up and I wondered whether the airlines prefer you do this check on fnpt II or in a real aircraft. There is some conciderable saving there if you do it on FNTP II. Can't see how this would be a problem on the sim, except for that you lose your MECR.

Save yourself some money and do it the cheapest way you can. I dont think flybe care a dot as long as you have a current IR, (and even that aint so critical).
When I was in the holding pool 18 months ago I called up the fleet manager (Great Guy) to ask if he recommended that I keep my IR current, he said he didnt care as long as when I started I was in current flying practice.

Its up to you.

How about saving the cash and not renewing, you don't need to have it current according to Lasors unless you fancy doing some SPA-IR that is!

Jaxx, Giving yourself the best chance in the sim may involve some practice, therefore why not renew your IR at the same time?. The Q400 course has seen people struggleing and Flybe know this, so they will not be selecting wannabees that cannot demonstraight IR proficency, now they have a pool to pick from.

Unofficially i was told be a very reliable source, (albeit a couple of years ago) anyone more than 6 months out the flight deck or not IR current is not prefered as a new hire.

That's not what the airlines think or indeed CAA FCL.

A multi ir is only valid for 12 months. And you must a valid IR for your first type rating.

I've phoned FCL to clarify this as the Airline i'm starting with said I needed to get a valid IR before I start.

Now I'm not sure where the word "current " came from. I think your rating is only valid for 1 year.

Ok here goes.

To all that are modular trained (as I am), old (in my case 39) and low hours (in my case circa 550), then it is not all doom and gloom.

How did I get noticed? In a nutshell networking, hard work and patience. I've had a frozen ATPL for three and a half years, but I haven't sat on my backside and done nothing. It won't come to you, you have to go out and get it.

Just about to start my modular groundschool thru Oxford then flying to be done with Bristol Flying Centre.Hoping to finish next January/February and,maybe a surprise I do wish to fly for FlyBE and have worked for 3 years at BHD and met many FlyBE staff.Hopefully my plan will come to fruition early next year!:D
