Light at the end of the Tunnel
Just a quick post to say that recruitment is happening out there at the moment.
Have just heard the following:
Cabair has had 6 DE instructors resign over the past month. Three are off to a regional TP operator, 1 to a low-cost airline and 2 to a charter airlines. All are 1500+ hour FATPL/IR SEP and some MEP. Also some recruitment in smaller companies - Air Atlantique, Air Wales names were being bandied about.
So at the very least there are 6 instructor positions going in very pleasant SE locations!!
Hope this provides some inspiration to all of you looking for work.

Slightly unusual timing as we enter the airlines peak season. Bodes well for the Autumn.
I think the majority of line pilots in the UK are finding that their companies are running pretty thin of pilots this summer. Absolutely everyone I know is working flat out.

And why not. Exploit the masses and then blame the staff shortage on economic factors.On top of that join in on the frenzy
by paying for your own type rating.Ha Ha!Few months down the track then start complaining about why/how the company is treating you like dirt."We don't have to thank you, you get paid to do that"- the favourite saying from management.

We here in BAE Systems Jerez are losing 2 of our ace flying instructors too to flybe and rumours of one further departure in that direction too.

I work for BACX on the emb 145 as a copilot. We are currently about 12 pilots down on my fleet with about 5 to 8 fo's leaving in the next few months so there will be some gaps to fill. Unfortunatly there is a BA recruitment ban at the moment so you may have to wait a little while. We seem to wait until we have to cancel a few flights a day untill we start to recruit. So far this month I have worked 198 duty hours and it is only the 14th.

A BA recruitment ban ? Where can I read more about it ? I hope it's not going to "fail" like the Cathay ban.
I also hear that airlines prefer to push their crews to the limit rather than to invest in new pilots. Well, it might work for a while, but sooner or later you reach the rupture point.

FlyBe certainly is short of pilots, recruitment will take place in the form of dash 8 courses every month for the foreseeable future. The rumour is that they are approx. 70 pilots short due to expanding fleet and multiple resignations to go to the land of orange! So keep sending in those c.v's.

Looking at the threads on this forum, I would say there is definetly something happening out there.
Flybe= Running courses, interviews etc.
BMI Regional= Looks like they are running more interviews (ref a post from an honorable member asking Qs about it).
Britannia= Read the thread but that s a yes.
Easy= Always looking these days
Aurigny= Some got interviews and jobs.

Just curious how you manage to do 198 hours duty in 14 days ? Even if you never had a day off in this period (which wouldn't be legal) and you reduced every single rest period to 11 hours ( which wouldn't either) 1t only leaves ( 14 * (24-11)) = 182 hours available to work.
Am I missing something ?

At last some progress
It finaly looks as if things are starting to happen out there!Easyjet are recruiting themselves into an early grave but its getting people further up the ladder as a result.
Several operators are conducting interviews/Sim assesments at present, regional airlines look like the best bet.
I have rescently had an interview and sim ride for a large regional operator with many new a/c on order and I am eagerly awaiting a response from them.
My experience is fATPL MCC 1250hrs and FI.
All you low hour people who are serious about getting hired. get an instructors rating work your ass off for a year and see what difference a 1000hrs makes.
I dont think I would have got the interview with the 265hrs I had 15 months ago.

Just curious. I am under contract till July 31 and then the CV 's go out. 3000 hours on turbo-props. Where is my best bet in the next 6 months to a year? (I have JAA licence)
Any advice appreciated. If for a turbo-prop I would be looking for quick command. If for a jet I would just be happy to be there!!!

Good to see that the demand curve is moving the right way for people. If Easy really do need 250 new drivers a year, for 2 years, that is only good news. The "upward motion" might gain some momentum.

I will be as delighted as the rest of you if there is light at the end of the tunnel as I gave up the well paid IT job and so am about to start training.
I am however alarmed that BA have just released those in their hold pool which doesn't bode well at all considering they haven't hired for over two years and clearly don't foresee any need for pilots in the medium term.
Light at the end of the tunnel or a very large juggernaut coming this way? !!!

WRT holding pool, I'd say different companies, different policies.
I was kept in the Britannia one for a little bit less than 4 years, yet today I work for them.
BA, I believe has a different approach (obviously) since the holding pool is kept alive for a set period of two years which have now come to term.
Hopefully this move will be far from terminal for the previously successful swimmers... All I can say, is, be patient an good luck.

Anywhere between 0 and a couple thousand quid a month, depending on your experience level and the moral integrity of your employer 
If you're an FI(R) though, you would normally expect to find yourself on an hourly rate (flying hours only) of 10 to 15 quid per hour plus maybe an extra 10 or 20 per day for turning up.

The Employment Situation
About 10 cadets and pilots on secondment to BACX are being employed per month. Direct entry openings are predicted for the end of Summer 2003. These will be open to zero flight time and type rated pilots (it is not yet known which types will be required).
