Air Atlantique First Phase Selection
Hi,
I received a letter from Altlantique this morning inviting me to the first selection phase for their Cadet Sponsorship.
Apparently it consists of a presentation, Q&A session, then an Occupational Test, a Maths and Physics Test and an English Test.
Just wondering if anyone had any experience of the day and, naturally, any handy tips would be most welcome!!!
I notice Scroggs that you mentioned the scheme in another post and described it as "highly individual". It would be great if you could go into more detail.
Cheers.

Ah,
you'll enjoy it if you get through providing you dont mind helping out in all areas of the company from cutting the grass to making the tea.
I was an engineer with them and they are a very fair company. There training is very good and you will fly a plenty but expect to be given other tasks as well and accept it with grace.
Jimmy the One is as old fashioned as they come which is why the company is in the dark ages (you'll see what I mean) but they've been going a long time and turned out a lot of very capable pilots in there time.
Just accept it not just the flying that is required but they look at the character as well and you'll be okay

I can't think of a better introduction to "Aviation" on God's Earth (or even a few thousand feet above it) than Air Atlantique - certainly as I knew it a few years ago. It merits Grade I Listing, and James Foden should have a Preservation Order put on him.

Wodka, the minimum requirements are PPL, Class 1 medical, under 25, I think one or two other things as well that I can't remember off hand (maybe a minimum number of hours?).
I don't think they actively advertise their scheme (hence no info on the website) but rely on word of mouth and speculative enquiries to obtain applicants. Best bet is to give them a call and they'll no doubt send you out an application form if you meet the initial criteria.

ATLANTIC
Definitely the best aircrew in the business and still plodding along but its more a human zoo experiment. Ask yourself if you want to be going flying on christmas eve at night over the north sea with very little chance of survival if it all go's wrong. Then bear in mind before you left they had left you a memo telling you you had to take a 25% pay cut! Have you ever flown an Electra at night spraying dispersant low enough to make your bottom hurt ! Fantastic training and flying. Bloody hard work and don't expect anyone to say thankyou or goodbye when they sack you! In addition never trust an engineer unless he's in the aeroplane with you!
PS: Engine failures will be nothing new by the time you leave!
Keep your eyes wide open, be broad minded and watch your back - you'll be fine! and you'll never be out of a job!

The requirements for the Cadet Sponsorship Scheme are:
PPL with 80hrs
Class One Medical
Full Driving Licence
Good level of education
Aged 18 to 25 years of age
Has anyone had any experience of this scheme?
If so, I'd be grateful of any opinion.

I phoned up about 2 weeks ago and spoke to someone from Air Atlantique(presumably a pilot as the receptionist put me through) and he said that they are looking for:
PPL with 70hours
Class 1 medical
and under 25.
Hope it helps!

Dear all,
Just want to mention that it is under 26, not under 25 (unless they've changed it again in the last few weeks). Also, if you have a PPL but don't have as many hours as they are asking it's worth applying anyway as they have been known to bend that rule a bit and take on people with less experience than that,

Definitely 25 AND UNDER
A bit more information on scheme.....
The scheme is full sponsorship and once you have completed training you are then bonded to the company for a 4/5 year period.
Cadets are given accommodation in a group house and all the bills (except telephone) are paid. Uniforms are provided. Cadets start with the groundschool, this usually takes between 8 and 10 months. This is part time and during this period they are trained in operations and do various tasking jobs for the group companines. This can be anything from painting hangars to driving jobs for crew.
Normally once the first seven ATPL exams are complete cadets then start hrs building and nav exercises to build up the 150 hrs for the CPL. Once they complete the groundschool successfully the approved training starts, IR/CPL/MEP.
On completion they are then moved to one on the group companies and bonded.
