I imagine someone with the OP's profile would make an attractive candidate for an airline like Loganair or Eastern. Someone older who is offered a regional base with a low cost of living is presumably less likely to be tempted by a move to a carrier with seniority-based rostering in the expensive South-East.
It's a shame about the supposed ageism that's been mentioned, when I joined the railway one of my colleagues became a train driver with no industry experience at 51 and was promoted to instructor at around 55. From what I've seen, the life experience older candidates possess often makes them better trainees.
