Failed the compass tests

Hey
Bit gutted as I've just heard I have not got through to the simulator test as I did not meet the required standards in the compass testing section.
It was a full day of assessments at my preferred airline and the feedback was I did really well in everything else and the other pilots comments were really positive, but the tests let me down.
I had a nightmare on the maths test, so I'm not surprised and no practice at 4 of the other tests
I did do some practice prior(math and verbal reasoning) , but not enough it would appear, plus my testing software is multiple choice and on the day it was type your answer in a box, which means you can't really have a guess
I have been told to get better at the tests and reapply in 6 months.
Gutted though

Sorry to hear that, although we have all failed tests and it's important to not forget that this is all just part of the game. Try to improve and try again there or elsewhere in those 6 months.

Yeah
The silver lining is I was told I am absolutely the right sort of person they want. So if I regroup and improve the tests Im probably in.
Which is what I'm going to do

Basically, you came here just to inform us what you've done, without any kind of feedback of the selection process nor the name of where you applied. Sounds good mate.

Pretty much, we can't help you if you don't share more information.
Which airline? how was the assessment? how were the assessors? is a good prospective? what did you like about the interviews? what not? etc

Really, be a good lad and share some insights.

From what I can tell you is that a Compass test is a reference test to assess your pilot skills, and as majority of skills, it can be trained and improved, that's the reason they have ask you to apply in 6 months (hoping you will improve), so start practicing.

@max alt
The test comprises of slalom, memory, maths, orientation, multitasking, control.

"...plus my testing software is multiple choice and on the day it was type your answer in a box, which means you can't really have a guess ..."

Should this statement be a small concern in the aviation professions?

Perhaps I am too old to understand the knowledge and attitudinal requirements in this modern generation.

The days of guessing things you don't know through tests is over and clearly this revision technique was inadequate, no wonder CAA are doing away with multiple choice for ATPLs. I hope you didn't pay megabucks for your revision tool!

Make the most of these 6 months to further prepare yourself and do something useful in the meantime and link it to aviation. You might be "The person they want" but next time round the competition is still there.

Bear with me as I'm sure this is an age thing.

How do you practice Maths? You either understand it or you don't.

Thank you Pilot Roger,so it is a generic name for a collection of tests.I had thought it was adding or subtracting 180 to a compass heading, silly old me.
I was going to suggest a method I was taught many years ago, of two up, two down and leave the third alone and like wise two down, two up and leave the third alone. Ie 320 put it through the machine and you get 140.Simples.
I can suggest a company called airline prep at gatwick that can help you prepare for tests etc, anyway good luck.
