Stobart Recruitment Type Training, Scam?
Ive heard a few cases of people paying for ATR type training with Stobart and then not being offered a Job. Apparently when You apply to Stobart, You are invited to an assessment at TRTO Simtech for which You are charged €600. Then You are offered a place on the ATR type Course at a cost of €20000.Im not sure what People are actually told before handing over the Cash for the Type Training but I presume they are led to believe that they have a good chance of a Job with Stobart after it. Ive heard 2 cases of people being told after passing the type course that they didnt perform well enough and were not offered a Job. Ive heard of another case of someone being told they made the holding pool after the course and still a Job Offer never materialised. I Suspect a Scam whereby they are training and charging alot more candidates than they have any intention of giving Jobs to, Beware.

I personally know a guy that did get a job out of it. I don't know what he paid for an assessment, but he only paid 15 000 for a TR. He then waited a year in the holding pool and is now flying the ATR for them.
It's not a scam, per se, but spending money on a TR without a guaranteed job/signed contract is always a risk. I don't know if I would be willing to risk that kind of money, personally.

Ya, having to pay for a type rating up front with any airline is ridiculous. Race to the bottom started by Ryanair. Is it standard practise for Airlines to expect People to pay up front without any Job Offer beforehand? The least they could do is assess you, decide that you are suitable, offer you a job and then ask for the money for the type.

But just on the airlines that charge up front but then tell people they failed do this cos to them, they've spent the same amount of resources on said candidate, whether they fail or not, some just cant pass the line check for example ... the airline them says "I spent the same on you as the lads who passed ... so pay up" (obviously they cover themselves by asking for it up front though)

False. Cityjet does require their cadets to pay everything, from assessment to TR. See below, specifically states 'cost-neutral'. The type rating was 25 000€ if I recall correctly:
Eight pilots join CityJet through Simtech - Pilot Career News
It's mainly the big ones that bond I'm afraid. Honestly, I'm not opposed to paying for the TR, if the pay compensates for it and I get a guaranteed job. It's the speculative TR, without a solid contract or agreement, that I find simply predatory.

I would love to know the numbers for Stobart, ie how many pay for the Type Rating and end up not getting a Job. I think they type alot more People than they need. I suppose if You have so many willing to part with 20K without any Guarantee of a Job You are going to get People taking Advantage to line their own Pockets

@momo - fair enough! Glad to hear things can still change!
@1968 - Can't be all that many, since I've applied twice and never been invited to interview
