Does the school affect whether you land the job?

Sorry if this genre of thread already exists. Five years ago I was accepted on the Flybe MPL scheme at FTEJerez. Having not been able to secure funding at that time, I embarked on the modular route. Now with the ATPLs completed and PPL SEP MEP IR(N) Night ratings, I am debating where to complete the CPL/IR. Many say to complete it in the UK at a recognised school, whereas others claim a licence is a licence. I am very inclined to complete my training at Fly In Spain, an EASA school in Spain, where I could save £10,000 on UK school prices. All I would like to know is, besides having the correct character profile, am I reducing my chances of getting an airline post in the end of this investment?

In essence no.

BUT, getting the license is the easy part - the most difficult is landing the job.

Who you know certainly helps... but believe you me - you will find many that will dangle carrots in front of you but then are never able to help or will help.

Those that I know who have gone to OAA, CTC have the back door route without even applying to the airlines. They have them lined up for them.

EZY, MON are some to mention, BMI regional etc.

There are a few limited ones who dont, but minimal.

If I had to do it again - it would MPL with a reputable school period.

It makes no difference at all to the small piece of paper that you receive at the end. A licence is a licence. Needless to say the bigger and more expensive schools will tell you otherwise, but then what would be the point in them employing so many people in their sales department if they didn't tell you that? 10k is a lot of money. Say you had 10k to spare, that means you could add an instructor rating as well and try and get an instructor job if all else fails. Ultimately no right or wrong decision. Look into all options and choose the route that suits you the best. Oh, last point...please don't listen to the people who say you'll get a shock flying in UK airspace if you do your training elsewhere(it's all the same).

Being a modular guy myself, id like to believe the answer to be no. But my main criteria when i chose my school was, do they have a good track record of students landing a job!?

Theres a couple of schools, that offer training, yet I've heard of no one getting a job other than to become FI's for their school.

Yes.

It definitely does matter. As much as we would all like it not to, it does matter.

Sure, the licence you get at the end is exactly the same but it's getting the first job that is the hard bit. If the school you choose has known connections with an airline then there is a greater chance of being recommended if they come looking for new pilots.

If the school you choose does not have connections then you are entering into the lottery with everyone else.

When it comes to second and third airline jobs then no, it doesn't matter any longer.

I finish tomorrow at FTE and have been recommended for an interview with an airline next month by my head of training. How much weight would that recommendation carry?

It is all about you how much you paid for your training or who recommends you is in the end immaterial. Graduates go from CTC and get jobs with airlines who lay them off after 6 months. Graduates from smaller and cheaper organisations go and get jobs and flourish within the industry.

I went from CTC to ezy and have been employed for 6 years.

No cadet I've flown with has gotten laid off after 6 months.
