Previous experiences (Before getting into flying)

So my question here is how important is previous experience in a work / life capacity to airlines when they are looking through candidates? Will you be put above the rest having more commercial / work experience.

Im 25, Ex military (RAF) going through the process of a re-trade from Regiment to pilot when i was unfortunately injured and medically discharged this was now a number of years ago. I am now a construction manager and in a fortunate position being a high earner so ill come out of training debt free.

Im going the modular route currently undertaking my PPL at Doncaster onto Night rating, CPL, ME and IR at multi flight. MCC and JOC unsure on where ill undertake that but I will also pay for a type rating but unsure on what aircraft is in higher demand with regards for low hour pilots.
