That would surely be the case with any company.
If (for example) I was moved onto a French contract, I would expect to be on the same terms and conditions as the French crew.....

It makes sense whenever it's been made clear that your relocation is of a long-term nature. But what about the scenario when you have only been shifted for the summer/for a couple of months? Do you have to sign a new contract for each relocation or do you receive any per diem on grounds of being out of your permanent base for a short period?

Depending on the base. For example Tirana only can have fix local contract or maximum 90 days if you go out of base.
also until October people is in random roster so commuting is quite difficult if not impossible.

My experience a year ago was totally different. Serious, but did not feel this kind of pressure.

Training is starting again from 27th July. For the European bases they want to create a holding pool.
And I'm not surprised they can't find anybody for Abu Dhabi with those conditions. You just can't have a decent life on that package.

So, out of 265 pilots who were fired, they couldn't find 70 or so to sign up? Given the dire situation in the industry in the countries where most of said pilots come from, that's quite unexpected. With most Eastern European airlines being financially infirm even in the best of times and at the brink of a mass collapse right now and with the many locals who lost their jobs in Asia in the past months coming back home, it's hard to believe that people would be turning down a flying job en masse. Or were they never offered to take it in the first place? Was the invitation for assessment for Abu Dhabi for all 265/265 or just for some of them?

Nothing new here guys, just nepotism at it's best: both DFO and Head of Training are ex-EK (hence the similar method of letting ppl go in both companies). They just wanna place their recently let go buddies. No one cares about the 265 pilots fired in April.

Or they think they can cherry-pick the best EK 380 captains? Not much of them will stay around for long once presented with the numbers.

My theory is that a relatively small number of those fired in April were hand-picked for assessment and the rest were not considered at all. Many of them were or are in major conflict with the management, some are known to be suing the company either on grounds of their dismissal or for other matters.
