SAAB 340 Type Rating

Hi all

I have been offered the chance to apply for a job flying a SAAB 340 Cargo.
I was wondering how useful this type rating would be, and what are the chances of progressing on to larger jet aircraft once hours have been built.

Thanks

I think the saab is a popular rating, one of the better ones concerning the prop aircraft. I would not worry too much about the chances to go on on bigger aircraft afterwards. But the question is: do you have to pay yourself and how much?
Is this your first job?

Most Saab guys I know who are moving on are either leaving for Flydubai or Jet2 on the 737.

If it is your first job and the salary and operator is ok, do it. You build some good experience (flying with a prop is harder than a jet) and get the hours.

Good luck.

As a first job the Saab would be ideal. If its a freighter then its probably the A model. Its a bit underpowered compared to the B model but apart from that theres not much difference. Still around 400 to 500 Saabs around the world.
