BA future pilot Cathay pacific comparison
BA future pilot / Cathay Pacific cadet scheme comparison
Hi folks,
a few years ago I applied to the Cathay pacific scheme, getting through the first round of interviews. I decided ( stupidly as some may see it) that hong kong was not for me, and hence didn't persue it. I wonder how this scheme will compair to the cp scheme, particularly interms of required calibre and interview difficulty? Any thoughts guys? I think compition may be greater, as cp didn't particularly advertise it well.

The Cathay scheme would see the successful applicants as Second Officers for 4 to 6 years. With the BA scheme the successful ones will be flying the aircraft as an FO. No comparison for me. It is my opinion that BA will have higher standards. They are offering a better package and so can afford to be more picky. Cathay are having difficulties getting the required calibre and have had to improve the package on offer twice as a result.

I must say I wasn't over impressed, they seemed very pushy expecting you to be in hk within a few days of taking the next stage phone call, which is fine if your flipping burgers in mcdonalds but not when you already have a half decent career. I also thought the start salary was low for hk, they were offering 40k with no mention of housing allowance. When I investigated a half decent flat costs 20k per year! I think grinding it out with buffalo air in Canada would be much more fullfilling than cp. I do think the competition for this ba scholarship will be tough due to the coverage it's getting, even the BBC have reported on it. It will be intresting to see if they want true green horns to mould exactly how they want or if they will take ppl hour builders. I've currently got 120 hours tt on c152, c172 and f22a.
