F/O position in SE Asia or China
Hi all,
planing on getting a type on 737 or A320 in order to get a position as F/O
in SE Asia or China.
few questions:
1. The dilemma is which type to acquire 737 or A320 ?
in my opinion the main consideration should be which type produces
more job opportunities today and in the near future.
i'd like to hear your opinion..
(some numbers - there are around 1300 737 with orders to 650, versus to
950 A320 with order to more then 900 - airliners in SE Asia)
2. Is it possible to get a job in China with only 737 type, but without actual
experience on it..?
do you think that having an ALTP (ICAO) with 2350 hours total, can make
the difference? (I am also B.Sc. in aeronautics & jet propulsion..)
3. any suggestion to where do i start to look for a job in china ?
best of luck to all.. (-:

You won't like what you're gonna hear.
1. If SE Asia, get a B737cl TR and go knocking doors in Indonesia. Countries with lots of A320s, eg Malaysia, Philippines, China generally only employ local F/Os.
2. The general rule is that China only hires local F/Os.
3. To get an airline job in China, get enough PIC hours and go DEC. Terms for DEFOs tend not to favour expats.
Of course there are rare exceptions to the general rule but those are once in a blue moon. Good luck.

There's no such airline as "Vietnam airasia" , but if you are referring to the two separate airlines then you are wrong on both counts.
Vietnam Airlines has currently put A320 F/O recruitment on hold, they are still hiring captains.
Air Asia does not hire expat F/O's because they can't get Malaysian work permits.
