Converting UK JAA CPL/IR to SA CAA CPL/IR
Looking for information on Converting a UK JAA CPL/IR to a SA CAA CPL/IR, including costs and where they think is best to do the conversion.
Also any Information on having ratings put onto the SA CPL/IR ie valid ATR type rating.
Any info would be good....Cheers

Hi mt206...I converted my UK JAA CPL/ME/IR to a South African CPL/ME/IR a couple of month ago, so can give you all info you need. Just PM me.
1. You need to contact the SACAA, ask them to verify your UK license. You have to pay a fee to the UK CAA.
2. Get your SA Class 1 medical (I did mine at Gatwick)
3. Once your license is verified, they give you permission to write the 3 CPL (Air Law, Flt planning/perf, MET) exams at the CAA offices in Midrand (you write them on computer, if you fail, you can write them 3 days later)
Once you have passed your 3 exams, they give you a certificate saying that you have passed all CPL exams... Then...
4. Book a Flight test 'ME/IR renewal'. The flight test is not an initial IR, just the same as the renewal of South African ME/IR.
5. Go to CAA to pay a fee, take 2 passport photos, and write a motivational letter stating why you need a SA license.
6. Get your license 2 hours later.
NOTES: They give you a rating on all aeroplanes you have flown & loggend in your logbook.
If you have a JAA CPL and IR you have all the aeronautical experience needed to get your SA CPL, BUT make sure you have 10 hours night!! I didnt have enough night hours and had to fly a 5 hour cross country a night to get the 10 hours.
