Language's in European airlines

Hey Guys,

I spend every second of every day on websites and recruitment sites looking for the elusive first airline job . I've asked friends of mine in the business about mainland Europe airlines and the language requirement they have said to apply anyways and hope something works out.

I just want to get your opinion on what the chances are of landing the job not knowing the language? I only speak English and it's annoying to miss out on the job opportunity cause the language even though I have level 6 on the licence. I can see why airlines want to have it but still frustrating.

Before anyone says it yes I'm working on learning French to make up for it.

Its because those countries want to have those jobs go to their own people before anyone else (do you blame them?)

They cannot say German citizens only because they wil be breaking the whole EU right to work business so they put a language requirment and make up some BS excuse....its a loop hole.

Unfortunately us UK guys get analed because we can only speak English

Yeah i don't blame them just wondering for airlines that need alot of pilots like the AF and the LH of the world would they take anyone on without the language.

I guess im stuck applying to just the UK/IRE airlines. Not that thats a bad thing just a small field

Because even though a lot of cockpit work is done in English, everything else is in the local language - eg talking to dispatch, training manuals etc etc.

English is only a requirement in the cockpit, and even then it is not always used. Do a domestic jumpseat in France, Germany or Spain and you will see they do everything in their local language including talking to ATC.

Not all mainland airlines have that restriction. Neos for example and I think even Vueling. Shop around.

Thanks for the comments.

billywhu do you have a link for Vueling recruitment page or an email address? I've been looking online for the last 6 months and I'm yet to come across anything to send in an application. The links i've tried never open.

Vueling Job Market: opportunities to work at Vueling

Below flight attendants is what seems to be an empty space but click it and it will say no pilot recruitment.

Whether they are still open to the idea of non-Spanish speaking pilots, I don't know.

The link always worked for me. Except right now the pilot category is hidden and only the arrows show up, but if you click it is says they are not hiring pilots right now.

On that note, back in September or so, they "hired" 90 cadets who had to pay around €40,000 for their type and training. The pilots union stepped-in in the end and the cadet program got cancelled and the 90 cadets got contracts and are actually employed by Vueling from what I understand, so not to burst your bubble but I think you just missed that boat.

Thanks zondaracer.

I'll keep the link bookmarked anyways and keep an eye on it.

Thanks again
