DLR Dilemma
I have a big dilemma and need your advice
I am invited by lufthansa italie to do my DLR 16/02.
I work fulltime as a flight dispatcher and recently I found job as a flight instructor. This means I have almost no time left to study for the DLR.
Now is my dilemma quit my job so I can focus 100% on the DLR. Or keep my job and cancel the DLR test.
If I quit my job there is no chance to get it back. And my Flight Instructor salary is too low to life on
What would you guys do? Please advice

I agree , dont leave your job , and attend the DLR assessment you still have around 2 months, i think that is enough time to prepare IF you still remember the school math stuff ,

Definitly don't quit your job. This is a good opportunity for you but these days it's not worth quiting a job for it. Speacialy since you have a job in this area where you have contact with with the right people all the time.
Just take a couple of hours once in a while to study for the tests. You still have plenty of time. And once you get close to the test date try and study a little bit more if you can. You don't need to do all the tests every time. Do 2 to 3 different tests a day or something.
For the mental arithmetic there is a couple of tips on some web sites. Take a day off and google them.
There are also a couple of good threads about the tests over here on PPruNe and also with almost all the questions on the General Knowledge test. I don't know where it is anymore but shouldn't be that hard finding it.
If when the date is closer and you realy don't feel ready, contact them to see if you can postpone it or even cancel it. I don't know how much time in advance you need to do this but find out.

You shouldn't give up your job for this at all.
You give up your job once you have secured one, yes.
The DLR shouldn't be treated like an easy ride. Put a bit of effort into it and hopefully you have retained some knowledge from your ATPL's so should not be too bad.
2 months is plenty of time anyway.

Same opinion.
I would never quit something real(your job) for something potential where oly 3% goes through,knowing that it looks like LH already has all the Pilots for 2011,so we re talking about a potential job in 2012 IF you pass first stage DLR,if you pass ecod stage DLR,if you pass SIm,interview,medical...
Too many IFs.
I would take it relax.A little bit every day,you have 6 or 7 weeks to go,it s enough.
This world is not in a moment where we can quit an aviation job.

Thanks for the info.But still not sure.
I've got only 3 nights out of 7 time to study. And during those nights max 1hours time. So very limited in time.
If I read the forum I see guys that study 6 hours a day and don't past the test.
So is 3u a week enough?
I also red you only have one chance to do the DLR. So if u fail no more opportunities in Germany?

but I believe Air Berlin will not accept people if they failed the DLR.
However I think that's something I saw mentioned but it could be wrong.
I would not waste time though, do what you can to find out more about the DLR. If it's anything like the test I did then it will comprise of logic tests, mental math and others.
Good luck and hope you find a way of getting more study time. You may wish to call in "sick" a few times.

DLR failed means no chance for Germanwings, Cityline, LCargo or LH Passage and Italy.

Question: optical perception test
Hi
I'm training and training the optical perception test ( you know the 9 clocks where you afterwards have to fill in 4 numbers). The clocks are shown 2 seconds and somehow i only have a an average of 40 %. Someone know how to train this stuff??

Perhaps a bit late but maybe of some use to others. I started training for the DLR in ernest 2 weeks before the test. Had looked at some of the test before but that was more a first practice instead of trainig. Every weeknight 3 hours and about 6 hours per day in the weekend and passed. And I'm no wizzkid trust me.
People who tell you they spent 4 weeks training for 8 hours a day should really ask themselves what they are doing in a cockpit.
Don't also forget that the GU comprises 3 sections. The CBT tests (the ones you practie at home) psycho test (210 questions in german, whoch you can niot train for or practice) en the MIC (multi taksing skill test, which you can practice with the Skytest software which costs € 60,- did not have that myself)
So don't focus too much on only the CBT tests.
Oh and for the clock test: try to move away a bit from your monitor. Creates a better overview picture. Really helped with me
