Recruitment figures

By my reckoning there are about 7-8000 professional pilots in the UK at present and average recruitment is about 350/yr (accepted at current this is much lower, if any at all). It would seem that the combined efforts of FTO's would be to churn out around 1200 fresh graduates a year with a fATPL (both integrated and modular). Do these figures seem about right?

Well, the CAA says they issued 1330 CPLs in the year 08-09. Not all of these have an instrument rating though, but your estimate for the number of fresh graduates in the UK appears to be in the right order of magnitude.

From this second document it would appear there were over 17000 commercial licence holders with a UK issued licence on 01-01-2008. How many of these are airline pilots I don't know.
