Jobs with JAA ATPL(f) outside EU

Hi there,

I would like to understand what kind of jobs are possible with a JAA ATPL(f) licence outside Europe supposing the case that I cannot obtain any other medical certificate different than a european JAR class 1 due to vision problems and thus limited to work only on a JAA licence.
Please understand that I'm still going through my PPL training and I'm not asking about the current market situation but I just want to know if it's actually possible to work under this conditions outside europe, no matters where and what kind of flying is available: bush flying, GA, biz registered EU aircrafts, maybe even for airlines, I don't know. It will give me a better understanding of the working prospects with that expansive piece of paper. Thanks.

My personal understanding on the matter is that regardless of the licence you hold, you need to have a Medical accepted by the national Authority of the place you are going to fly in.

If you can pass a JAA Class 1 I don't see the reason why you couldn't get another medical, the JAA Medical requirements are for sure higher than the FAA (US) medical requirements and in my own experience quite acceptable.

I think both FAA and JAA allow the pilot to wear corrective lenses if they can correct his vision to an acceptable level.

Maybe if you ellaborate a little bit on the nature of your problem there might be other posters with more insight on the matter.

Supposing to fly somewhere in Africa with a JAA licence on a registered EU aircraft (for bush flying), do I only have to pass a local medical examination? What about licence conversation or other paperwork?

Regarding JAA medical Vs FAA a big difference between the two is that with the former a visual requirement is to reach 6/9 vision with glasses in each eye while the latter requires 10/10 each eye with glasses. That's my limitation.

Most places will get you to convert your licences to the local standard, JAA Licences tend to be converted quite easily with minimum hassle, some countries IE the USA when converting a JAR PPL to a FAA PPL, only need 1 hours worth of a checkride.
