Question Interview Questions and Answers

Generic Airline

Interested to hear some of your answers out there in Pprune Cyberspace.

Also interested in hearing some more challenging questions

A pilot is asked in an interview ( some taken from an interview book )

Why do you want to work here ?

What have you learnt from the jobs you have held ?

What are you looking for in this job ?

What are the reasons for your success in this profession ?

Your Captain comes to work in a dress.....

What is your greatest weakness ?

Etc.

1. Your travelling at 240kts. How far will you travel in 4 hours and 20 mins?

2. You establish on the ILS at 9 miles. What height would you expect to be?

3. You are travelling at 250 kts, and are at FL250. The procedure starts at 3000ft QNH. Where is the Top Of Descent Point?

All questions I was asked in a recent inerview. And the answers are all 'rule of thumb'!!

Also many airlines say it's not always whether you know the answer to the question but more how you deal with answering it. Unless its obviously a maths based question then you should probably know the answer

From someone who applied for Hongkong Airlines
  • How many people live in Hongkong
  • What do you know about Hongkong
  • How much profit does our Airlines make a year
From other companies
  • Why do you want to fly for us.
  • What do you think live at our company is like.
  • What kind of aircraft do we fly.
  • and then the usual ones, takeoff segments, takeoff/landing minima,...

Your Captain comes to work in a dress, what do you do?

Offer to buy her a drink after work?

How about, did you drive hear today?

Yes.

Did you break the speed limit? You can see where this question is going.

Would you ever break an SOP?
Good one I was thinking about this the other night. Is the answer not all SOPS and Emergency checklists should encompass all conceivable scenarios regarding safety, so in theory, NO you should never have to break one. However, in practice, its almost impossible to cover every outcome, so in the interest of safety you might have to.

E.G - you lose an engine, commence an approach, but are unable to maintain altitude at your MDA. Your SOP is clearly not to descend below, but your only option is to do so, either that or hopelessly maintain altitude at the expense of airspeed. Obvious really?

E.G - you lose an engine on departure. You're at departure minima and have filed for a departure alternate. However, damage sustained means you are unable to climb to the en route MSA (not necessarily the 25nm SSA) What do you do?

i read that BA's NOTECHS say inregards to 'deviating' from SOP:
  • If situation requires, non-standard procedures might be necessary. Such deviations shall be discussed and announced
  • With crew being consulted, deviates from standards if necessary
